I originally wrote Wattsex? as a book in Wattpad.com, as I began to notice trends in how it perceived sex and sexuality, as well as how it enforced these factors as part of its platform. My investigations, however, lead me to discover shortcomings which the Wattpad staff has acknowledged to be “shortcomings in the area of content discovery for underage users”. This was particularly alarming for me, given Wattpad’s heavy marketing towards the youth market. Wattsex? is a book that attempts to address the risks and need for re-balance the aspects of sex, sexuality and sexualisation not only on Wattpad, but for any social networking platform.
