Schelling Point x Welook: A Catalyst for Community-Driven web3 Innovation at ETHDenver
In an interview with Gloria Kimbwala, she discussed the importance of engaged and excited community members when launching a product. Welook’s tools are helping them achieve this by allowing for easy engagement and connection with their community.
Schelling Point is a community-driven event that brings together builders, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to explore and advance the development of web3 technologies. Held as part of the annual ETHDenver event, Schelling Point provides a platform for participants to share ideas, network, and collaborate on projects that have the potential to shape the future of the blockchain ecosystem.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Gloria Kimbwala, a member of the Schelling Point organizing team and Buidler Relations and Customer Success lead at Supermodular, to discuss the role of Schelling Point in the ETHDenver event and the impact of web3 technologies on community-driven shared resources.
Gloria explained that Schelling Point is a place where ideas come to the surface and communities gather to reflect on what is possible in web3. With the different tracks and the unconference, participants have a space to share what is important to them, and the technology provided by Welook helps to engage, connect, and continue the conversation beyond the event. This enables momentum to continue and empowers people to engage and connect, ultimately making Schelling Point more successful as a whole.
As the team behind Schelling Point works to make the event a success, they have partnered with Welook to help them achieve their goals. Welook’s tools are being used at ETHDenver, from ticketing to community engagement through WeCards.
Schelling Point uses Welook to engage with the community in many ways, such as using token-gated swag at the Sponsor Dinner and WeCards to stay connected with the community that is using Buidlbox.
“As we launch a product having engaged and excited community members is really important to us, especially when we are engaging with our builders. Our builders’ feedback helps us define value and we want to reward them for their input.” Gloria Kimbwala, Schelling Point organizer.
What was the impact from previous events regarding community-driven or shared resources, and what role do you see web3 playing in addressing the challenges that have arisen during the last couple of years?
Gloria: I think it’s important to support web3 platforms when event playing because it’s built on web3 values. Sometimes when you are using web2 tools you can unintentionally dox someone, and you have to be very aware of using different techniques to keep people’s privacy intact. With web3 tools such as Welook Labs, those values are baked in and top of mind. Another impact that has been helpful for us is the ease that comes with being able to align someone’s attendance and reward them with tokens for food, swag, etc. It allows for the cost of events to be less but the impact to still be high.
How does Schelling Point continue to drive engagement after event? What role does marketing activation, like POAP, token gating access, etc., play in this aspect?
G: The talks this year are amazing, and we had many great talks submitted that did not get selected. In the future, I can see an opportunity to continue Schelling Point past the virtual event into the digital space and reward people for attending different talks. The WeCards allow us to engage with speakers and follow them. I can see in the future an opportunity to retroactively fund speakers for their talks if they were impactful.
Looking to the future, Kimbwala shared her dream of getting away from swag and moving towards matching pools or donations to grants that benefit the area where the event is happening. She believes that this would be an easy way for web3 to have a positive impact in the communities they engage with. She also sees an opportunity to continue Schelling Point past the virtual event into the digital space and reward people for attending different talks. The WeCards allow them to engage with speakers and follow them, and she envisions the possibility of retroactively funding speakers for their talks if they were impactful.
In conclusion, Schelling Point plays a critical role in advancing the development of web3 technologies through community-driven shared resources. As web3 technologies continue to evolve, events like Schelling Point will be key in driving engagement, collaboration, and innovation in the blockchain ecosystem.
Welook’s tools have played a crucial role in the success of Schelling Point at ETHDenver, and this relationship highlights the importance of technology in supporting community-driven shared resources.
