WiFi Map is now a Web3 company in the truest sense of the word. Over the last fortnight, we’ve undergone a fundamental transformation and emerged on the other side as a tokenized, DeWi ecosystem with over 150 million users.
On 30 March, $WIFI had its initial launch on the TrustSwap Launchpad. It was oversubscribed by a factor of 13, which demonstrates the immense popularity of the utility token among our community and shows how excited the broader Web3 community is about our plans. We’ve been working alongside the amazing team at TrustSwap for some time now and we’re extremely grateful that, thanks to our combined efforts, the launch was a huge success.
Next, on 7 April, came the TGE and our first ever airdrop for contributors to the platform and winners of giveaway rewards. Our retroactive airdrop meant that people who have contributed to growing WiFi App historically — by adding hotspots, verifying credentials and running speed tests — received $WIFI inside the app. This will be followed by monthly airdrops for the most active contributors on the platform. We also issued airdrops to hundreds of people who participated in giveaway competitions during our Web3 rollout over the last few months. Recipients of $WIFI are able to add the tokens to their in-app wallets where they can be redeemed for amazing features with special terms, or withdraw them to an external wallet where they can be sold, staked, held or traded.
The same day, $WIFI listed on its first exchange — OKX. This is one of the biggest crypto exchanges in the world if you don’t know about it already. It is a sign of the confidence in WiFi Map as a Web3 disruptor, and means a growing userbase of 20 million people can now trade $WIFI. A few hours after the initial listing, $WIFI was added to OKX DEX, a decentralized exchange hosted by OKX. This means that OKX users have a non-custodial option for trading and staking $WIFI.
In other token news, OKX has launched a promotion with a $20,000 prize pool for trading $WIFI, running from 7–14 April with three separate campaigns: a Trading Competition ($17,500 prize pool), Trading Lucky Prize ($2,000 prize pool) and Task Lucky Prize ($500 prize pool). There are still a few days of the competition left to run, so get trading $WIFI now to participate. Additionally, OKX is hosting a WIFI Earn staking programme as part of the broader OKX Earn product. You’ll be able to earn up to 20% APY for staking WIFI for up to 90 days, with higher volume, shorter-term options also available.
Just two days later, on 9 April, we rolled out the $WIFI utility token on Gate.io. Gate.io is a world-famous exchange offering a large number of security features including two-factor authentication, SSL encryption, and cold wallet storage.
