I’m done for today.
Where’s my pay check?
I’ve worked my mind to the bone.
It hurts to even think of leaving.
I’ve done my share.
I’ve done theirs too.
A crash of thunder fills the silence that otherwise dominates the air.
So fitting that this gust of wind arrives as soon as it’s been knocked out of my sails.
Holding out, Been working hard.
Deserving of a treat.
After weathering the storms
Like a wave crashing against the ocean floor.
Quiet but powerful.
The force breaks you, drifts you.
And sometimes you never see the sun.
We weren’t prepared for this.
We were all too busy keeping pace.
Used to things just working. A machine that won’t break down.
You couldn't fathom this.
I squeeze your hand while you’re asleep
Like a desert wind that blows across my face
You are warm but you are course
If I ever got the chance I’d say
You are really a beautiful force
The road behind never slows
In its winding, fleeting kaleidoscope dream
