WorkChain.io on the Main Stage at Belgrade Venture Forum
Our team is on a whirlwind European tour that’s taking in multiple high profile events, meetings with investors, media interviews and some general schmoozing.
First stop was the Belgrade Venture Forum in Serbia.
Staged at the Metropol Palace Hotel Belgrade on November 26–28, the event brought 550 attendees from tech world together for a combination of investor pitching, a conference and exhibition.
The mission of the forum is to develop capacities and improve positions of regional businesses and entrepreneurs.
The event focuses on the fields of the knowledge-based economy, with goals of building competitiveness, improving access to finance and building sustainable and profitable business models.
The WorkChain.io team was part of the 30-odd teams to pitch to the packed room of tech leaders, founders, investors and advisors.
Our CEO Ryan Fyfe took to the stage to show off our real-time, blockchain-based paychecks, demonstrating how they transform the way workers around the world get paid.
As Ryan explained to the crowd of tech onlookers, with the WorkChain.io app (recently released on Android and iOS) workers can get instant access to their earnings as they work. It’s their money in their (digital) wallet in real-time.
But what do we mean by real-time?
The easiest way to think of it — and how Ryan sold it to Forum attendees — is just like Netflix and Spotify stream movies and music on demand, WorkChain.io streams money. It gives workers the freedom to get their paycheck on demand, not weeks later.
As Ryan puts it:
“We live in a fast-paced, on-demand world. Yet we still get paid based on slow pay periods rooted in the Industrial Age, and pretty much just accept it despite the financial inflexibility it causes.”

The concept of real-time payroll was well-received, sparking plenty of opportunities that will play a part in the continued roll-out and adoption of the new real-time payroll model we’re building.
