Blink of an Eye

When everything fell apart, it happened in an instant. Sarah had always believed, that if things did all fall apart for her one day, that it would happen slowly, like the way that she had built her life. How, unhurriedly, she made her way through school, how she carefully dated, and over the years, fell in love step by step, bit by bit. The job, saving for a house, planning for a baby, giving birth. A carefully orchestrated plan that had played out over thousands of hours, millions of minutes; a mural of billions of moments that had all led her to the single point where it all fell apart.

And even though the airbags went off, and their seatbelts were on, the only thing they managed to slow was the time until she could see them again.
