Yield Guild Games (YGG) has partnered with Navigate, the first web3-native big data platform laying the groundwork for a truly user-owned internet. By playing Navigate’s upcoming game Data Quest and interacting with its dapp, users can participate in interpreting the context and meaning of the data it collects from social media platforms driven by user-generated content (UGC).

As Navigate builds out its platform into a fully realized game, YGG will be a key partner thanks to its community’s collective expertise across various specialties. Over the last few years, YGG has positioned itself as one of the most effective entry points for anyone interested in getting into web3 gaming. By designing educational Superquests for games like Axie Infinity and Pixels, creating comprehensive guides for titles like Parallel, and fostering a culture of mentorship, YGG has helped thousands of newcomers get started with web3.

Navigate’s Opt-in Alternative to Data Collection

Over the past decade, big tech companies have stirred controversy over online data collection practices that involve gathering user information without consent and then selling that personal data to advertisers. This process has been highly criticized by several consumer rights organizations, as users do not have the option to opt in or out of having their data accessed and commercialized in this way.

Navigate is building its sprite-based MMORPG, Data Quest, as part of a broader initiative to enable users to take back ownership of their data. Its long-term vision is to establish itself in web3 as a community-owned data company, offering users a meaningful, opt-in alternative to how the internet is currently structured.

“YGG is an ideal partner for Navigate — it merges two communities that care deeply about shaping the future of work through web3 gaming. I’ve been a part of the YGG community since the early days when all eyes were on Axie, and it has been incredible to witness YGG’s growth these last several years,” said Ali Husain, co-founder and CEO of Navigate. “Gabby and his team’s vision around uncovering earning opportunities in the open Metaverse aligns perfectly with what we want to do at Navigate, which is rewarding people for the value they are creating either in the form of passive data contribution or actively investing time by labeling important datasets. This is just the beginning, and I’m very excited to build and grow Navigate with the YGG community.”

On June 27, 2024, Navigate is slated to release Data Quest, where players can contribute to its data labeling platform by completing in-game quests. This design is intended to provide users with a positive, fun experience while also incentivizing them with blockchain-based rewards.

In these early stages, Navigate will focus on scraping data from social media platforms that rely on user-generated content. Labelers can tag information as positive, negative, or even satirical in nature, as well as provide the nuance that only humans can detect, helping ensure data integrity. Meanwhile, Navigate enables users to freely opt in to have their data collected where it could otherwise be unethically sourced.

“Our new partnership with Navigate represents our belief that web3 is shaping the economy of the future. Owning your data is one of the first steps to building your own profile of provable credentials, and we are excited to collaborate with a team whose vision matches YGG’s,” said YGG co-founder Beryl Li. “We are spending more and more of our time in virtual spaces. It only makes sense for a person’s contributions online to have a positive impact on their life as a whole. Web3 skills won’t just be tech skills in the future — they will be life skills.”

Building Onchain Reputation, Starting with Data Ownership

YGG’s continuous iteration of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) and Superquests has familiarized its community with questing in web3, setting up members for an easier onboarding process onto Navigate’s quest-centric platform. YGG players are set to become proficient in labeling and sorting data through the support of community-led initiatives. YGG’s global player network will also be instrumental in maintaining cultural and linguistic diversity among Navigate’s pool of contributors.

With Navigate’s early focus on contextualizing user-generated content (UGC) from social media platforms, YGG is a natural fit for tasks relying on a varied field of subject matter experts and cultural backgrounds. As such, another key to this partnership is YGG’s strong presence in emerging economies, whose communities Navigate is looking to serve through its platform.

Navigate’s push for users to take back control of their data aligns with YGG’s vision for establishing a user-owned internet, where people can gain access to opportunities through their onchain reputation and verifiable credentials. In collaboration with Navigate, YGG is positioned to lead the way in changing the trend to build a more secure internet that safeguards users’ privacy.
