The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Hero Report

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on 12/6 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (News)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Wallets)

So, let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

Well, this sure was a busy week in the Kingdoms! As seems to frequently happen, things kicked off on Monday and kept going from there. Here are a few highlights from the week:

Crystalvale Expansion to Avalanche

DeFi Kingdoms is officially expanding to Avalanche!

DeFi Kingdoms is officially expanding to Avalanche (AVAX)! After the previous week’s AMA in which business development lead Dreamer laid out DFK’s expansion plan, we now have confirmation that the realm of Crystalvale will be coming in late Q1 2022. You can read the announcement linked above, or check out the FAQ that was posted on Discord.

Crystalvale’s new Power Token, CRYSTAL

Following the announcement, FriskyFox did an AMA over on Discord to answer the community’s questions about the expansion, its effects on JEWEL’s tokenomics, how to be eligible for airdrops and initial mints of CRYSTAL, and the role of new Gen0s. Nothing here has significantly changed since our initial writeup on this last week, but you should check out the AMA or one of the summaries by Sarah or Samichpunch.

Details on Quests

As everybody had the chance to dig into quests once they went live on the main site, we’ve also started to collect a little more information about some of the details!

Drop Rates

Drop Rates for Fishing & Foraging Quests

First, we got some info about various item drop rates from the quests, which you can see in this chart. Keep in mind that these are base rates before they are modified by profession level (worth 2/3 of the reward modifier), hero stats (1/3), and profession gene (+~10%).

You may notice that Shvas Runes are not on this chart. That’s because they have a separate drop table that’s modified specifically by the presence of the relevant profession gene when questing. We got confirmation from Hubert last night that these runes have a drop rate of 0.2% for heroes without that gene and 1% for heroes that do carry it.

Questing XP

Shortly after questing was released, player iknowkungfu noticed that the average XP gained from Fishing is significantly higher than that from Foraging. In response, we finally got confirmation from Bolon Soron that this had been raised internally, and updated XP values are in the works!

I, for one, welcome our new Bloater overlords.

Reward Items and Crafting

Although the flavor text is pretty good at hinting at what various quest reward items will be used for during crafting, it’s still mostly been speculation until now. Last night, we also got some initial confirmation from Hubert that not all quest reward items will immediately be used in crafting:

I will say that at least for now Ragweed, Redleaf, Goldvein, Bloaters, Redgills, and Silverfin are not used in any of the formulas. — Hubert Cumberdale

So if you were looking to turn some of your quest rewards into Gold in order to buy a Golden Pet Egg or swap for JEWEL, it sounds like these are a safe bet for now. However, it’s always hard to say what will happen in the future:

Professor Tango teased this potential Bloater use the other day.

Newly Summoned Gen0

Gaelzael Oceangaze #48418 (Hippo)

That’s right — this week we saw the first newly summoned Gen0 since October 7! Wait, what? Now slow down before you run over to Discord and ping all the devs like a n00b about a potential game-breaking bug. (It was me. I did that.)

It turns out that player Hippo managed to prank us all by opening an old Gen0 crystal and trolling chat in the process!

I reached out to Hippo to ask if he’d been waiting all this time just to prank everybody, or what inspired him to open the crystal now. It turns out he had won a raffle for an Enhancement Stone way back before the Gen0 sale, and had held off on opening the crystal in hopes of using it to get a buffed Gen0. He finally managed to ask Hubert about whether that would work, but found out that the stones are used during the crystal creation, not the opening:

After asking for days trying to chase down Hubert in discord chat, he finally told me it would be at the buy stage — no buffed gen0…! So I summoned it with the hope of getting the exp/summons going. And in the process, incidentally successfully trolled gen chat! I didn’t get an OP gen0 but it was still worth the wait! :) — Hippo

Hippo also put together a YouTube video showing off the reaction in chat, and explaining what happened.

However, in the discussions that followed in Discord, we were reminded that Gen0 crystals don’t expire, and can be opened at any time. I asked FriskyFox to confirm how many crystals had been minted in the first place:

75 gen0airdrop eggs have been created. 51 of which was for the airdrop raffle, and various others went to partnerships, influencers, etc — FriskyFox

So with 19 promo heroes, 75 airdrops, and 2000 sold, this means there should be a potential total of 2094 Gen0s. With 2091 now minted, we may yet see three more on the Harmony blockchain before the expansion on AVAX adds to this number. Mystery solved.

50,000 Heroes Summoned

Laurelia Mall #50000 (ImSchou)

Another week, another hero milestone! Early this week, we welcomed the 50,000th hero to be summoned from the Inner Grove!

Congratulations to player ImSchou, who is currently looking to find a forever home for Pirate/Archer Laurelia Mall. If you’re interested, you can contact them on Discord (ImSchou#8793) and make an offer on the hero.

The Summoner’s Circle

That was a lot of news! Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.

Total Heroes: 57,626 (+9,728 / 20.3%)

Hero Growth

Hero growth increased dramatically this week in response to the new utility provided by questing. The total number of heroes increased by over 9,500 this week — just over 20%, with an average of about 1,400 new heroes summoned every day since questing was released.

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Dec. 6: 57,626 (9,728 / 20.3%)
• Nov. 29: 47,898 (6,318 / 15.2%)
• Nov. 22: 41,580 (9,743 / 30.6%)
• Nov. 15: 31,837 (13,182 / 70.7%)

Hero Stat Breakdowns

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets.

Total Hero Wallets: 9,391* (+1,107 / 13.4%)

* There is a small hole in the API graph data — exacerbated by recent server issues — that prevents viewing the owners for 36 heroes, so the numbers in this section do not include those heroes.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth increased by only a tiny bit this week, remaining at a relatively low 13.4%. I had hoped that this would have picked up with the introduction of quests, and while there are over 1,100 new wallets, that’s still far shy of the numbers we were seeing in the middle of November.

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Dec. 6: 9,391 (1,107 / 13.4%)
• Nov. 29: 8,284 (917 / 12.5%)
• Nov. 22: 7,367 (1,874 / 34.1%)
• Nov. 15: 5,493 (2,277 / 70.8%)

Hero Wallet Stats

This week the average number of heroes held per wallet increased significantly to 6.13 (+6.1%), while the median wallet held steady at 2 heroes.

A few key hero wallet metrics

The share of hero holdings by the Top 50 wallets continued to decrease this week, by a significant 10.6%, even as the number of heroes increased by 7.6%. However the share of wallets holding only one hero also decreased by 6.3% to 32.8%. Additionally, only 180 more wallets than last week have one hero — either an indication of very slow hero adoption, or that new users are picking up more than one.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 75–99, 100–124, 125–149, 150–200, and 200+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 845* (-6 from last week)

Note: As with the broader hero data, there is one Gen0 (#1052) whose ownership status is unknown, so it is excluded here.

The number of Gen0 wallets again decreased slightly this week, as we began to see more apparent signs of consolidation. The number of Gen0s held by the Top 50 increased by 14 and the number of wallets with 10+ also increased by 1. Meanwhile, the number of wallets holding 1 Gen0 decreased by 15.

Key metrics for Gen0 wallets

Amongst the shuffling around in the top wallets, a few things stand out: anomolies picked up 4 heroes (16 total), dirtydan sold 3 (30 total), and Joe40 added 12, while Eric went down by the same number (most likely a transfer between multiple wallets). A number of players in the Top50 also picked up 2 each.

Whale Watch

Finally, let’s check in on our hero whales. There has clearly been some shifting between accounts here considering some of the numbers of hero acquisitions. Similarly, two whale accounts from last week dropped their numbers significantly (Gilraen: -101, and Oort Cloud, whose 155 new heroes last week have entirely disappeared — though a new account, Oort Cloud Jim, now holds 59). The number of wallets with 100+ heroes has also held steady this week at 24.

Account Name / Hero Count (Change) / Gen0s (Change)

  1. Veilvi / 411 (+0) / 21 (+0)
  2. Wouter / 205 (+82) / 5 (+5)
  3. BiGsy / 201 (+0) / 0 (+0)
  4. leon / 198 (+59) / 8 (+0)
  5. Pikul / 190 (+20) / 6 (+0)
  6. Dunsparrow / 189 (+4) / 2 (+0)
  7. dirtydan / 187 (+0) / 30 (+0)
  8. ぷでぃんぐ / 186 (+61) / 0 (+0)
  9. Le Ogre / 174 (+22) / 25 (+1)
  10. holmes / 170 (+27) / 12 (+0)

Total heroes held by Top 10: 2,111(+164 / +8.4%)
