Tradução do quinto capítulo (“ The Transition from Death to Rebirth”) de “Life in Relation to Death” de Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche
Quando a morte está próxima, a constituição elemental do corpo se dissocia, e assim começa o fim da vida. A morte conduz ao estado intermediário entre morte e renascimento, chamado “bar-do” em Tibetano.
WHEN DEATH IS NEAR, the body’s elemental constitution dissociates, and so begins the ending of life. Death leads to the intermediate state between death and rebirth, called “bar-do” in Tibetan.
No nascimento a semente da energia masculina reside no chakra da coroa. Na morte, quando os elementos enfraquecem, o vento ascendente não consegue mais segurar esta energia na coroa, e ela começa a descer através do canal centrar até o centro do coração. Neste momento todos os pensamentos surgindo a partir da raiva cessam.
At birth the seed of masculine energy abides in the crown chakra. At death, when the elements weaken, the ascending wind can no longer hold this energy at the crown, and it begins its descent through the central channel to the heart center. At this time all thoughts arising from anger cease.
No nascimento a semente da energia feminina reside no chakra do umbigo. Quando o vento descendente cessa de funcionar, esta energia começa a subir através do canal central. Todos os pensamento surgindo a partir do desejo cessam.
At birth the seed of feminine energy abides at the navel chakra. When the descending wind ceases to function, this energy begins to rise through the central channel. All thoughts arising from desire cease.

When these two energies meet at the heart, all thoughts arising from ignorance cease. There is no longer any stirring of poisonous thoughts. One swoons into a period of unconsciousness, then reawakens to the experience of mind just as mind is.
Esse reacordar é chamado de “bardo clara-luz”. Se você foi um praticante muito bom na sua vida e adquiriu maestria em habilidades meditativas de deixar a mente ser como ela é, no alvorecer do bardo clara-luz a fruição da sua experiência meditativa é o reconhecimento da base da verdade absoluta. Isto é chamado de iluminação completa no momento da morte.
This reawakening is called the “clear-light bardo.” If you have been a very great practitioner in your life and have mastered meditative skills in letting the mind be as it is, upon the dawning of the clear-light bardo the fruition of your meditative experience is recognition of the ground of absolute truth. This is called full enlightenment at the moment of death.
Se você não tem esta habilidade meditativa profunda, o momento passa, então subitamente você percebe cor. A expressão das qualidades da mente natural aparece como cores que formam as diferentes formas das deidades, tanto pacíficas quanto iradas. Se na sua vida você teve a habilidade meditativa para reconhecer as formas das deidades como a aparência natural da sua mente, você pode atingir a iluminação neste estágio da experiência do bardo.
If you lack this profound meditative skill, the moment passes, then suddenly you apprehend color. The expression of the qualities of the natural mind appears as colors that form the different shapes of deities, both peaceful and wrathful. If in your life you have had the meditative skill to recognize the forms of the deities as the natural appearance of your mind, you can attain enlightenment at this stage of the bardo experience.
Se você passar por esses dois estágios do bardo sem reconhecê-los como a expressão da natureza absoluta da sua própria mente, e como qualidades puras desta mente, você entra no “bardo do vir-a-ser”, ou “sidpa bardo”. Esse é o começo da rota karmica para o renascimento ordinário. A tendência ao auto-agarramento, residual nos estágios anteriores do bardo, expande-se para um dualismo completo durante o bardo do vir-a-ser.
If you pass through both of these bardo stages without recognizing them as the expression of the absolute nature of your own mind and its pure qualities, you enter the “bardo of becoming,” or “sidpa bardo.” This is the beginning of the karmic route to ordinary rebirth. The tendency toward self-clinging, residual in the earlier bardo stages, expands into full-fledged dualism in the bardo of becoming.
No bardo do vir-a-ser a experiência de karma negativo é intensa, porque a mente não tem mais o efeito estabilizante de um corpo material. Habitando um corpo mental, sua consciência é confrontada por alucinações aterrorizantes, sons horríveis, e sentimentos de pesadelo de ser soprada de um lado para o outro sem proteção.
In the bardo of becoming the experience of negative karma is intense, because the mind no longer has the stabilizing effect of a corporeal body. Inhabiting a mental body, your consciousness is confronted by terrifying hallucinations, horrible sounds, and nightmarish feelings of being blown about helplessly.
No entanto, se na vida você adotou a prática de rezar quando as coisas estavam além da esperança, rezar vai ser uma reação natural dentro da intensidade do bardo do vir-a-ser. Já que a mente não está limitada por um corpo físico ordinário, no instante que você rezar para um ser de sabedoria a mente vai ser liberada no ambiente da consciência de sabedoria daquele ser, que é livre de qualquer traço de sofrimento e é completa com as qualidades perfeitas da iluminação.
However, if in life you have fostered the practice of praying when things were beyond hope, prayer will be a natural reaction within the intensity of the bardo of becoming. Since the mind is not limited by an ordinary physical body, the instant you pray to a wisdom being the mind will be liberated into the environment of that being’s wisdom awareness, which is free of any trace of suffering and is complete with the perfect qualities of enlightenment.
Resumindo, é melhor ter realizado a natureza da mente através da meditação, para que na hora da morte sua consciência se dissolva inseparavelmente com a base fundamental do ser. Isto é iluminação.
In summary, it is best to have realized the nature of the mind through meditation, so that at the time of death, your consciousness merges inseparably with the fundamental ground of being. This is enlightenment.
A segunda melhor opção é reconhecer que a aparência das formas divinas não é outra coisa além da exibição natural da base da verdade absoluta, inseparável da exibição de sabedoria da sua própria natureza absoluta. Isto, também, é iluminação.
Next best is to recognize that the appearance of divine forms is none other than the natural display of the ground of absolute truth, inseparable from the wisdom display of your own absolute nature. This likewise is enlightenment.
Por fim, mesmo sem as habilidades meditativas para se tornar iluminado no bardo, você pode certamente realizar o poder da prece. Este poder vem da fé profunda no ser de sabedoria que é a fonte do seu refúgio espiritual.
Finally, even without the meditative skills to become enlightened in the bardo, you can surely accomplish the power of prayer. This power comes from deep faith in the wisdom being who is the source of your spiritual refuge.
Algumas vezes a prece não parece muito efetiva durante a vida da pessoa, porque as circunstâncias não mudam facilmente de acordo com os desejos da pessoa. No entanto, no bardo do vir-a-ser o poder da prece é desobstruído e libera a pessoa diretamente do tumulto do sofrimento para um ambiente de pureza e bem-aventurança infinitas.
Sometimes prayer doesn’t seem effective during one’s life, because circumstances don’t easily change according to one’s wishes. However, in the bardo of becoming, the power of prayer is unobstructed and liberates one directly from the turmoil of suffering into an environment of infinite purity and bliss.
