A sitemap is essentially a bird-eye view, this way we can take an early glance at what our product looks like from treetops. Sitemaps are incredibly useful.

What is a sitemap
A sitemap can be an effective planning tool for designers and non-designers alike, They are not limited to information architecture.

When do we need sitemaps?
Sitemaps are generally used in the beginning or really early in the design process, they come in handy when we start working on wireframes.

Creating a basic sitemap
Essentially a sitemap will consist of linked pages
A label is needed because it will let us understand what the page is about.
The next step would be creating primary, secondary, and tertiary pages

There are two types of sitemaps
Flat sitemaps
This is suited for smaller and medium-sized products, maybe about 10 to 100 pages.
Deep sitemaps
They are suited for large-size products, they help house a lot of information.

Why are they so valuable?
They help you plan for usability and it provides a fall overview which can really help teams.

Sitemaps can help strategically place content where users can find it, it results in the creation of your hierarchies and navigation of your product.
It helps in calculating the content needed and also gives you a good understanding of your scope.
