Six Months of Technical Achievements on Dune Network
The development of Dune Network started in June 2019. Here is a rapid survey of what was achieved during the first six months of development:
- Jun 24, 2019: the genesis block of Dune Network is forged and the network is started, with one Foundation baker, receiving no rewards until the network is made public.
- Sep 11, 2019: the announced airdrop from Tezos block 600,000 is performed and the network becomes public, accessible from the DunScan block-explorer. First transactions are done using the Dune Web Wallet and the Dune Ledger app.
- Sep 12, 2019: the Gitlab repository is open, everybody can run a Dune Network node! The code already shows a difference of more than 25,000 lines with Tezos, with new features like batch transfers . The Liquidity Online Editor is also available to write smart contracts on Dune.
- Sep 30, 2019: two programmes are in place: the Validator Programme helps validators to collect enough stake for their validator, while Wallets Restoration Programme allows Tezos ICO participants to recover their DUN tokens.
- Oct 15, 2019: the first protocol revision is performed on the Test network, with many previously announced features included: contracts without fees (collect-call), Ironmin optimized storage, offline signing of operations and many small UI improvements.
- Oct 23, 2019: the code of an early ERC20-like smart contract for Dune Network is presented, with a full description of how to easily deploy it.
- Nov 5, 2019: after the successful upgrade on the Test network, the upgrade is successfully performed on the Main network, with all tools upgraded.
- Nov 18, 2019: the next protocol upgrade, Babylon+, is announced. It will contain Improved Account Management to increase the security of bakers, such as administration accounts, white-listing for transfers and limitation of delegations and number of rolls.
- Nov 29, 2019: the Metal Browser Extension is released, allowing Dapps to easily send transactions to the Dune Network, with no risk for users keys.
- Dec 6, 2019: new features to ease the deployment of Private Networks are announced. It shows how a Private Dune Network can be setup in minutes using simple JSON configuration files.
- Dec 12, 2019: an open-source tool to recover secret keys from Ledger and Trezor devices is released. It helps users access their Dune Network account when they are unable to use their hard wallet.
Of course, the development of Dune Network is continuing. The upgrade to Babylon+ on the Main network will be announced soon for mid-January 2020. It includes again more features than expected, with in particular the first release of Love VM, the new smart contract engine especially designed for performance and verification.
