Today’s reading: “The Ministry of Healing” pp. 355.

I turned 60 this past week. Yes, looking back, life passes so quickly I can only agree with Ellen’s opening statement,

Our time here is short.

And we only get one turn. There are things I regret not doing , so I think it is good advice to,

…make the most of life.

We are called to work. Some of my friends think this is preaching, giving out literature, knocking on doors, but Ellen’s surprisingly powerful pep talk insists,

wonderful possibilities are ours through a faithful use of the opportunities of our own homes.

We don’t have to go out into the world with high-powered, high cost, state-of-the-art programs, we just,

…open our hearts and homes to the divine principles of life,…

and,

through faithful use

through,

a kindly, self-sacrificing spirit and a steadfast purpose…

…we shall become channels… of life-giving power. From our homes will flow streams of healing, bringing life and beauty and fruitfulness where now are barrenness and dearth.

That sounds a lot like Jesus!

That sounds like a challenge… What would that look like? Is Ellen really serious when she said back on p.349, that while Jesus was at home “ during all these years He was fulfilling His divine mission.” Maybe it was something to do with His character. Nothing at all to do with great deeds and thoughts.

The challenge I take from today’s reading is to find “the tempted, the sick and the disheartened (p. 350), the poor, the stranger and the teacher, the care-burdened mother, the feeble and the aged (p.353)and the tempted youth and simply invite them home.

Would that work today?

Then there is the whole concept of small groups. What about house churches? Nah…, no-one would be interested in that these days.
