Lego Build 120 — Schrek PPC Carrier

This is one I’ve been holding out for a while. Wanted to share some ‘Mechs in the meanwhile, but vehicles are indeed one of those elements in the BattleTech universe that really makes it stand out. BattleMechs are the kings of the battlefield (they should really play second fiddle to warships, but that’s another conversation), but vehicles have their niche and they can be really dangerous.

Which brings us to the three-PPC wielder monster of this week — the Schrek!

Developed from the Demolisher hull, the Schrek traded the twin heavy autocannons for three particle projection cannons. This allowed the vehicle to reach far and potentially knock out most opposition with a single well-placed volley. It was a devastating design, but it had some drawbacks, chief among them the very high price tag associated with it due to the advanced weapons and rare fusion engine that powered it.

Nevertheless, most armies saw value in such a vehicle and during the devastation of the Succession Wars it would find its way into the elite armored regiments of Great Houses and even some Periphery nations. Later, during and after the Clan Invasion, this unit would remain a potent weapons system still in general use.

In my Blake’s War AU, the Schrek existed in the Canopian arsenals and quite a number found its way into the Restoration army of the Aurigan Coalition during that state’s civil war. Arriving late, they wouldn’t see much action, but a decade later during a Taurian incursion concurrent with the Andurien Crisis, these tanks would find themselves at the front line. This was especially true in the battlefields of Artru, the barren, frigid world being a convergence point for the whole conflict. The campaign cost the Aurigans most of their heavy equipment and although it ultimately forced the Taurians to negotiate it failed to stop the border worlds from falling into Taurus’ hands or become overrun by militant grups and bandits.

I’m really happy with this model. It is really simple to put together, too. You will need 65 parts to put it together, so the parts usage is relatively high for such a vehicle.

I really hope you enjoy the snippets about my AU stories. I’m finally putting together the first compilation book for this series and hopefully I’ll be able to make it availabel during the first half of this year. It will tell this alternative story of the Aurigan Reach in the 3030s, as a sequel to the HBS BattleTech game of sorts. Something you can use for your own scenarios while also having cool Lego instructions to play with.

If you want to help me expedite the process or be able to make more stuff like this more quickly feel free to pay me a coffee, or check my other gaming stuff around the Internet.

A YouTuber I really like and whom I had the pleasure of exchange a few words with has recently made a video about this tank, by the way. The Mechanical Frog is one of the great BattleTech lore channels and if you love this universe like I do you’ll be amiss not to check him out.

He’s an outstanding guy and spreads lots of positivity across the community, so it will be worth your time. Also, inspired me in quite a few ways, so there’s that.

Now go out there play games and enjoy your lives.
