Try Discipline Instead of Punishment

Let’s talk about the difference between Punishment and Discipline.

Discipline goes hand-in-hand with positive behaviour guidance. Discipline is in response to an undesired behaviour, while positive behaviour guidance is preventative. These two overlap to create an environment that teaches children how to effectively manage their own behaviour.

Providing consistent positive behaviour guidance will lower the need for support, but it will not end it. Testing limits, making mistakes, losing control over one’s emotions and making errors in behavioural judgment are all part of learning and growth. Using discipline is an effective and positive way to help your children to learn how to manage their behaviour and emotions in different situations.

Disclaimer: Infants cannot misbehave or be spoiled, as all their actions are driven by needing to have a need met. Crying is their most effective form of communication to express this. Needs many include hunger, sleep, comfort, fear, sick, connection, stimulation, over-stimulation, etc. Infants should NEVER be disciplined or punished. Discipline is not appropriate until approximately one year old or older.
