micro-reviews:
Disclaimer and Legend:
* Movie name links to imdb when possible. IMDb/Rotten Tomato scores are from when i wrote the review so they might differ when you read.
* Stars are granted on a 5-star scale and are not meant to be compared universally but (perhaps) with equally themed movies. 5 stars for a romantic comedy doesn’t compare to 5 stars on a action movie; genre and purpose matter.
* A “+” in a star scale means it’s better than equally starred movies it may contend with. Ratings are based on my opinion at the moment and may change cause reasons.
— 108 min (1h 48m) — Drama, Sci-FiSlow paced intrigue that plays out very nicely, beautiful images and a plot that seems straightforward but has you doubting. A worthy watch
Good if you like: AI movies, scifi
My Rating:★★★★✰
imdb: 7.8 /10 RT: 92 /100
Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation(2015) — 131 min (2h 11m) — Action, Adventure, Thriller
As expected from “a Tom Cruise action movie” very interesting fast paced action, has a pretty cool soundtrack featuring variations on nosse dorma. Ending is sort of abrupt though. Connects nicely with saga so if youre a fan, you probably already know to watch it. Could’ve been 30 mins shorter and would’ve been better.
Good if you like: Mission Imposible series/movies, tom cruise
My Rating:★★★✰✰ imdb: 8 /10 RT: 93 /100
Kingdom of dreams and madness(2013) — 118 min (1h 58m) — Documentary
Slow and not that in-depth documentary on Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli and it’s prominent members. Not as interesting as Studio Gihbli movie, only watch if you’re a fan and want to know a bit of how they work.
Good if you like: Studio Ghibli, how animation studios work
My Rating:★★✰✰✰
imdb: 7.9 /10 RT: 90 /100
— 114 min (1h 54m) — Comedy, WesternVery funny simple story about a ramen shop and it’s journey to improve. Fun wacky characters provide a lot of charisma. Story is intertwined with VERY odd/japanese relationships with food.
Good if you like: Ramen, japanese food culture
My Rating:★★★✰✰
imdb: 7.9 /10 RT: 100 /100
The Man from UNCLE(2015) — 116 min (1h 56m) — Action, Adventure, Comedy
I never saw the original series so i can’t compare with nostalgia. It’s a VERY stylistic spy movie with good measures of laughs, romance and action. More style than substance, but its a fun ride
Good if you like: Spy movies, light-hearted action movies
My Rating:★★★✰✰
imdb: 7.6 /10 RT: 67 /100
— 94 min (1h 34m) — Comedy, DramaHilarious slice of life movie representing japan life in the 1950s+. It’s suprisingly translatable since the situations presented are very universal. Fun watch.
Good if you like: Japanese life, slice of life, family dynamics
My Rating:★★★✰✰+
imdb: 7.9 /10 RT: 88 /100
