(This is the fourth of a series of five posts on making the most of the vision board experience —links to the earlier ones at the bottom!)

Making a vision board is one way I set my intentions for the year, but there is another one I find just as powerful. Combining the two will turbo-charge the months ahead!

I first discovered the ‘Word of the Year’ idea from a fabulous coach called Christine Kane. She has developed a tool to help you define the one word that will guide you through the year. As Christine says, it is great for those of us who aren’t really into New Year’s resolutions.

In the past I have had words such as ‘courage’ (when leaving my job) and ‘explore’ (when I wasn’t sure what to do next). This year, I’m intending to ‘prosper’.

But it is all very well to choose a word (or as what tends to happen, the word chooses you!), but what do you do with it next? How do you make sure you are remembering to engage with that word every single day. It’s no good writing it in your journal on January 1st and then never looking at it again. So, I write it at the top of my journal page every single day and take a moment to let it sink in. And each day I take note of how I have ‘prospered’ for that day. But there is one other thing you can do to make sure you are paying attention to your word, and that is to stick it right in the middle of your vision board.

You might find your word in its entirety in a magazine, or just cut out the individual letters and paste it right there in the centre, or at the top. And then of course, when you start using your vision board as your launch screen on your phone, it will be there in all its glory.

What’s your Word of the Year? How are you bringing it into your life every single day?
