Or The High Priest of Horror?

I won’t be able to write much about him.

My palms become sweaty when I think of his stories. His stories aren’t meant for the faint-hearted…

Guess what? His short stories will make you wish you hadn’t read them.

Here are a few of my… ‘favourites’ (?)

The Tell-Tale Heart

Black Cat

These stories are considered to be connected to each other, because of the theme of the guilty narrator. How Poe manages to create a tension-filled atmosphere is… rather unsettling.

Lamb to the Slaughter

The one story that shows that even the meekest can be pushed over the edge. Again, very unsettling.

The Fall of the House of Usher

Poe’s most atmospheric work, with Dracula-like undertones. Horror on a different plane. I’ve never wanted to visit big mansions after reading this story.

The Cask of Amontillado

A tale of revenge… simply told, but in a unique, slow-burning style that made the revenge all the more sweet – just like a cask of aged amontillado.

The Gold Bug

A tale of pirates, secret treasure, puzzles and codes. This is one of Poe’s more enjoyable stories, and not entirely dark. Good ol’ tale of suspense and intrigue.

That’s it for favourite author #17. I hope I can sleep well tonight…
