A tribute to my parents who raised me with tough love
A few months ago, I concluded, that my parents did a good job in how they raised me.
First of all, I went to my 10-year-school reunion, and some of my colleagues I went to school with, have already had kids on their own.
I noticed that some seem to be strict parents, and I thought to myself, woah my parents were never that strict, but they raised me with a tough love.
They raised me with tough love, pushed me to a good work ethic, and an independent woman & I am deeply thankful for that today.
But let’s start at the beginning.
My parents worked a lot and so my sister and I were already on our own a lot, or often with our grandparents (who lived in the same house downstairs).
Sure I had to live by some rules, but I had a lot of freedom, compared to some friends, where I was able to grow, evolve and unfold.
Because of that freedom, even in my teenage years, it wasn’t necessary to lie to them, when I went to a party or a club.
They weren’t afraid to yell at me or put me in my place, but they also weren’t afraid to give me recognition.
Of course, I was not easy to deal with, sometimes I was such a brat, and I was loud and stubborn.
