From Numbers to Designs: My Journey in Product Design
A Non-Traditional Path
I am a senior product designer with seven years of experience, though my journey into design was unorthodox. Before pursuing my second master’s in Web Design and New Media (now the same program but it’s called Interaction and UX/UI Design), I never studied anything remotely related to design. Whenever I tell people that my background is in mathematics, statistics, and finance, their reaction is usually one of total surprise. I have to admit, I enjoy seeing those shocked faces :D. Then, the inevitable follow-up question is always, “What made you transition to product design?” And honestly, I’m still not entirely sure. Maybe it’s just my calling.
Looking back, I realize that in high school, while my peers were focused on solving math problems and aiming for higher scores, I was secretly sketching website designs in the margins of my notes while the teacher talked about new formulas for calculating a ball’s surface area. Don’t get me wrong — I love math, or I wouldn’t have pursued it in college. But maybe creating designs was just something that naturally captured my attention.

Now, I work with an environmental service company, focusing on B2B enterprise service design and SaaS design. I’m excited to share more insights about being a product designer with a focus on B2B products and look forward to connecting with others who share similar interests.
Passion Outside of Design
Outside of work, I’m an avid sports enthusiast. Baseball, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. The strategy, the exhilarating moments, the warmth of a sunny day, and the vibe of the ballpark — there’s something magical about sharing a cold beer and peanuts with my family during a game. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures.
I also love trying new things. Years ago, just after college, I ran a small jewelry store. Although it wasn’t a full-time venture, it taught me invaluable lessons about patience and the power of small, consistent steps. If I were to do it today, I might overthink things — but that’s the beauty of learning and growing at different stages of life. Both the youthful impulsiveness and the more thoughtful approach have their own charm.
