The Essence of My Being
Whenever you meet someone for the first time, you invariably exchange pleasantries. I always found these initial interactions to be quite monotonous. They often revolve around the same questions.
How’s it going?
Where you from?
What do you do for work?
Are you married?
Kids?
And so on and so forth. I often thought these questions, while important in their own right, seldom capture the essence of who we truly are.
How’s it going? Pretty good, I suppose. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. I’m a doctor by profession, who dedicated countless hours, months, and years to acquiring my MBBS degree, and currently am spending countless hours, months, and years struggling to pass my US Medical Licensing Exams to apply for a residency. And to be honest, I love it. I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t.
I’m married. As for children, we’re not planning on that just yet.
Sooooo… now what?
Conversations usually stall here. We talk about the weather, the drive, the food. I try to crack a few jokes, as I always do, sometimes to laughter, sometimes to silence.
