Who I am as a writer is even more delicate and profound.
I am sharing my about me in hopes that it gives you a better perspective into my journey, not only as a person but as a writer.
The Logistics
My name is Shei (Shay).
I am a born Trinidadian and proud.
I am currently 29 years old and heading into my year of the dirty 30s.
Some of my most elite years to come.
I was raised in a resilient Caribbean household, steeped in morals and values that continue to serve as my guiding principles and my source of determination.
I am a mother to an amazing 7-year-old son who keeps me humble and gives me purpose.
He is my light in a world that can sometimes be clouded with darkness and dismay.
My everything.
My journey
I had dreams of becoming a writer.
In elementary school, I discovered my gift for words. Being unable to fully express myself verbally in the present, written words were my way.
I lacked the ability to be vocal.
I possessed a voice, yet I found the act of articulating my thoughts through writing far more effortless than speaking them aloud. I couldn’t tell you why.
For these unknown reasons, I continued to use my voice through my pen.
Writing down my fears, my deepest secrets, and the most intricate parts of my being, all on paper.
Writing is the most therapeutic part of my soul.
It gives me purpose, it keeps me grounded and it is all me — every word.
I will admit that I didn’t follow this passion until maybe 2–3 years ago.
I always just dreamed about it.
A published author, an advice columnist, and the go-to for words — all dreams.
Here I am, at 29, making my dreams come true — one word at a time.

I started my Medium journey a month ago and I am devoted.
To see the brilliance on this site, so many great writers, so many great stories, and so much discovery.
I found a home.
As a beginner on this journey, my aspiration is to write about my experiences each year, encapsulating the evolution of my path.
I stand at 44 followers and 484 views, with so much potential in store.

As I grow and experience this journey of life, I understand the importance of support and positive voices.
I read and maybe not as much as I want, or as much as I should, especially as a writer, but it’s through the words of others that I am able to grasp the true essence of life.
Words have helped me grow mentally, physically, and spiritually.
It has guided me on how to live, how to love, and how to be.
