My Story — Greg L
Outside the gate.
Do you ever notice when you’re at a social event — it could be a wedding, a business meeting, a demonstration of some sort — how the people attending naturally fall into different groups? It’s not cut-and-dry — it never is — but like most human behavior one can spot some generalizations. There’s the extroverts, the keeners, the go-getters who always make their way to the front, who actively participate in whatever’s going on. They nod, they laugh on cue. They just seem naturally attracted to the spotlight. I hate them. Next are the followers — usually the largest group — who just want to blend in; they tail behind the keeners, staying close in their shadows so as not to stand out. Everything about them is muted; their clothes, their haircuts. Their views. If they were a food they’d be potatoes. Then there’s the wallflowers, the misfits. They’re society’s outcasts; they don’t interact well, hate the chitchat that social gatherings demand, and other than the allure of the food table would rather be downloading software updates than here. Their fashion sense ranges from unintended retro to Cirque de Soleil. Most people from the other groups stay away from them, uncomfortable in the foreign country that is their persona.
That’s where you’ll find me.
I’ve always been a little different, circling about the neighborhood of Mainstream but…
