Humans Are Odd
My favourite Marvel superhero is Vision. He’s an underrated character who took some time to get his due, but with the new series WandaVision it seems as if it’s happening.
There’s something that he said in Avengers: Age of Ultron that is worth contemplating:
“Humans are odd. They think order and chaos are somehow opposites and try to control what won’t be.”
Even Dr. Fate — my second-favourite DC superhero — has said that he doesn’t fight for order or chaos, he is on the side of balance.
We are an odd species, aren’t we? Instead of coping with what we cannot control (or will not be controlled) and commanding what we can, we spend time trying to control won’t be. That act keeps us from commanding what we can actually control.
We strive for this concept of work-life balance — something that doesn’t exist — instead of simply striving for balance since work is part of life no matter which way you look at it.
“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” - Jonathan Swift
I think we could use a lot more Vision in our lives. Vision can help us see things not only as we want them to be but also as they really are.
I’m not just talking about the superhero, either.
