The Small Things
I was sitting outside my local coffee shop when this ladybug landed on my table.
Ladybugs — or ladybirds as they are often called in the UK — can be seen as a symbol of luck. Even Feng Shui, the art of arranging spaces for optimum flow of energy, often incorporates the ladybug symbol.
They can also be seen as a symbol of self-reliance as when they feel threatened, they give off an odor to their predators that keeps them at bay. So despite their small size they can really take care of themselves.
Ladybugs are also protectors. They are welcome around my garden because they eat up the aphids and protect our plants while doing so.
So when this ladybug landed and stuck around at the table I was sitting at, I saw that as a sign that what I was doing there — chatting with a friend and frequent collaborator about this big project I’m working on over the next six months — was going to go well. I felt lucky. I felt resilient. I felt protected.
The moral of this story? Pay attention to the small things. They can really have a greater impact on you than you might initially think.
