We are excited to announce that we are expanding Citizen’s service area to include dozens of cities across Greater Los Angeles. Today, we’re kicking off this effort by activating Citizen’s safety network for the City of Long Beach.

With this expansion, millions of additional residents in Greater Los Angeles will have access to Citizen’s free safety notification service, which delivers real time alerts, live video from the scene of incidents, and more. Thanks to all the safety resources and transparency we provide, Citizen is already immensely popular in Los Angeles, where one-in-three people have downloaded the app since it launched in the city in 2019.

“We’re excited to kick off our expansion efforts in the region with the City of Long Beach,” said Citizen Founder & CEO Andrew Frame. “Ever since we launched in Los Angeles, we’ve had countless requests from people in nearby communities for access to the insights and resources that Citizen’s safety network provides.”

In order to provide local real time safety alerts, Citizen is placing custom-built receivers across Greater Los Angeles. These receivers process police, fire and EMS transmissions, which are then interpreted by our expert team of analysts and sent to users as safety notifications based on their location.

Users in Long Beach will also have access to Citizen Protect, which offers subscribers 24/7 access to a fully personalized and innovative suite of safety resources. Highly trained agents are able to assess and address subscribers’ safety needs– from live monitoring to dispatching first-responders. Users can connect to agents by text, voice or video, with an average response time of under 10 seconds.

Across a wide range of safety needs, Protect has helped keep our users out of harm’s way. Our agents recently helped a woman stranded in the Mojave Desert, supported a user in Boston during a mall shooting, and partnered with the community to help reunite a missing grandmother with her family in San Francisco.

Citizen reports on approximately 6,000 incidents per day across 60 cities in the United States and serves over 10 million users who have downloaded the app.
