The Book of the Way, or Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, puts it, the man of high virtue is not aware of his own virtue and therefore has (real) virtue; The man of low virtue tries hard not to lose his own virtue and therefore has no (real) virtue.
In a web society, any monopoly soliciting the utmost honor is doomed to collapse. Centralized enterprises and groups are prone to dig out every trace of group interests at the manipulation of their members from the top down. The outcome, however, always diverts from their expectations at the base of the control pyramid. The tip abandons control so that individuals fight for collective wellbeing in their distinct manners, where favorable exits are compromised for the group. Decentralization decorates a system into a bright sky dotted with numerous stars, each shining luminously. This well paints the Web 3.0 I aspire to build, an autonomous, out-of-control, promised land — NetX.
I work to bury myself in the most creative sketches and map out the most coherent designs on this being I create. This article centers on how NetX is laid out. Breakdowns and interrelations will be presented in the upcoming series. However dedicatedly and far my craftsman work may reach, this artwork may not debut in the best shape and be cast once and for all. Spontaneous upgrades on codes, software, equipment, rules, culture, etc. are awaiting on the way. The constant inflow of users will trigger the inherent trial and error mechanism. The system learns and evolves, gradually giving way to a resilient, out-of-control being. And I just walk into the crowd and watches serenely as Web 3.0 grows.
The NetX Framework
Web 3.0 has risen to the surface along with the tides of the Internet. Control is on its destined path to die out. Skin shields humans from outer hazards; organs nourish the body; white blood cells kill viruses. Similarly, Web 3.0 is born with its indispensable parts. The name of NetX intends to reveal the true nature of this Web 3.0 being as an out-of-control flock bound by countless nodes.
Cloud native also adds up to my inspiration. Nodes function as containers. Simulated microservices work at the underlying layer. NetX will emerge as an extensive ecological system, from cautiously written codes to the beautifully laid-out metaverse, from independently running nodes to the distributed social network.
High hopes are placed on NetX to become the next mainstream of the Internet. Human wisdom is born to tackle the unsolved. All tools are created for the same end. Thus, simplicity matters. NetX finds no exception. Sheer, digitalized structure supports the underlying layer; controlless framework enhances cognition of the consensus layer; inherent elimination mechanism pushes NetX to learn and grow; internal reward mechanism binds parts closer. This is the core concept of NetX.
NetX Core Concepts
Ⅰ. Release the kite into the wind
Rookies hold tight to the flying line. The kite trips and falls. Pros release the kite into the wind and fly the kite with it.
NetX here is the kite framed by nodes. Surfing the hot waves of the times and the surging currents of the market, NetX respects all emergences and echoes out-of-controllness amid freely developing flockness. This writes the inherent law of organism. I am the one who fly the kite and ride the kite.
Ⅱ. Close connection and integration
NetX operates in a distributed manner, relying on the link and exchange of substances, information, energy, and data. Interrelations and interactions of various functional parts consummate organism activities, crucial to keep them running.
Judging by how Web 3.0 works, NetX may exchange substances and energy in the way tokens are swapped, key to bringing nodes closer to each other. Experienced coders constantly transport nutrients as a human heart does and check nutrient safety at nodes already passing audits. Those cheerful volunteers play the role of blood vessels and transmit nutrients to all parts. That explains the internal circulation of organisms. It digs out the value of individual nodes and brings the group better together.
Ⅲ. Trials and Errors
NetX calls for bold endeavors.
Evolution sees no preset path. The fittest shows up only after constant attempts. Any reward from positive feedback draws more followers; any behavior from negative feedback requires harsh reflection. Natural selection walks alongside development. Only exclusive economy, culture, and system achieved through trials and errors will build up NetX.
Ⅳ. Coordination and Prediction
Out of control discards absolute control by humans but does not banish control out of the way. Human still matters but in an auxiliary way. Codes link and err, pointing out the right direction of evolution for the group.
NetX will pick up prediction skills as it matures with coordinated parts. The human knowledge base is infinite but incomplete. If we think of it as a distributed system, loopholes are commonly seen. Theories like the butterfly effect remain unexplained. NetX strives to weave a more comprehensive knowledge web. Stronger links and closer collaboration will instill this tightly knitted web with more power to even foretell what damage that flap of a butterfly’s wings may incubate.
No solution holds good for all time. New obstacles and challenges keep popping up as humans evolve. As we dive deeper into the universe, Newton’s classical laws of mechanics start to give up their absolute correctness. So does the authority of various laws. As life goes on, evolution never stops. This is where the charisma of life lies.
In the end, the kite flies up to the sky and I become the kite.
