Recovering from surgery and raising a child do not go well together. Stormy comes into my room at some point during the night and promptly decides to sleep on my recovering wound. Stifling a scream as I wake, I gently move her to a different part of the bed. By the time morning comes around I’ve had to move her at least 3 times.

Today is a public holiday which means no school. Under the threat of losing my sanity, and stitches, I’ve arranged a play-date for Stormy with her best friend. For the entire day. After ToastBox. I’m really looking forward to this.

I drop her off and quickly return home (via a much needed coffee) for 6 uninterrupted hours. It’s amazing. Stormy eventually returns (as do my pants) and we begin the evening routine. While we take the dog out, she decides to take the opportunity to jump in the pool with her clothes on. Once done, there’s not much point in trying to stop her. I let her play with one of her little friends from the Condo. After about an hour she emerges and we go upstairs for a bath, during which we discuss what to have for dinner. We decide to go out for a treat. She gets out of the bath and I dry her down. At this point, she decides she doesn’t want to wear clothes.

“Sometime I want to go out and sometimes I want to be naked!” She exclaims

“You can’t do both”

“Why not?”

“Because one of us will be put in jail”

“Will it be me?”

“Yes” I lie.

“Oh.” She thinks for a moment. “Can I have dinner at home?”

“Sure”. I now have a naked 4 year-old eating spaghetti bolognese on the sofa. This will not end well.
