It is a restless night. But, to be fair to Stormy, it was our cat, Han, who caused the most sleeplessness last night. He has a deafening meow and likes to talk.

Saturday is a busy day. Despite the disrupted sleep, we leap into the day with full gusto. Breakfast at ToastBox, followed by Sportsball. We are a little late, having spent too long at breakfast. It is gratifying to see her entire class call out to her as we walk in. Her coach says that they all love her. Somehow I’ve raised the popular kid. I don’t know where she learnt that.

Sportsball ends and we go shopping for some more plants. She’s been very good at watering and looking after her Bok Choy that we decide to start another pot. From there she follows me on a few errands and behaves very well.

Mid afternoon and we scoot off to her friends house for a play date. Both are 4 years old and pushing boundaries — bodily functions are now fair game. The phrase, “I poo poo on your face”, is said more than once.
We stay until late and it’s back home for dinner. Stormy is in a talking mood.

We cover a number of topics. She now understands the difference between play money and real money; “If I use pretend money and I’m playing, that’s OK. But I can’t use pretend money for real. I have to use real money.” There are many more questions that I struggle to answer. “Why do bad people do bad things if they don’t want to go to jail”? How do you explain socio-economic disadvantage, privilege and empathy to a 4 year old?

* For those who missed the context, I’m not actually single. My wife has started a 5-month contract in Australia (yay). This is a Very Good Thing™. Stormy will be staying with me here in Singapore and I have great help both remotely (from my wife) and locally. I’m writing this purely for fun and to practice writing. :-)
