It’s 7am when I first wake Stormy. It’s 7:30 when she gets out of bed. She decides that she doesn’t want breakfast. She would prefer to play with her new Lego. I suspect a trap. I am right. 10 minutes before the bus arrives, Stormy announces that she is “so hungry”. Luckily I’ve prepared for this and have her toast ready. Her plan foiled, she decides to take it on the bus. Our dog comes up to say goodbye as we’re getting ready. I make the mistake of calling him Barky McBarkface. “Don’t call him that!” Stormy exclaims. “He’s Mr Chewbacca!”. She emphasises the Mr. I almost expect to see a monocle and top hat on the dog.

By now it’s time to say goodbye to Chewie and leave for school. It’s pissing down with rain so we walk through the basement to the bus stop. Stormy is disappointed that she can’t play in the rain. Although I do get the opportunity to run through the rain to pick up the toast that I’ve left behind. Time for a new shirt.

On my way home I check the cinema to see what movies are out. It’s Smurfs. I have an internal argument with myself. Should I tell Stormy or not? I know she would love to watch it. I, however, would rather watch almost anything else. In the end my inner dad wins out and I buy us tickets to see Smurfs. Stormy is very excited when I tell her. She grabs flat bear (her plushy bear-skin rug) and hops onto the scooter. She chatters the whole way about… well nothing really. It’s just general chatter. We stop for McDonalds before going inside to buy tickets.

At this point, I am forced to admit, it was a good movie. Especially for a little girl. It’s a little blatant when it comes to delivering its central message (you can be anything). Although, that’s probably a good thing for a 4yo.

After the movie we scoot home. Stormy is very tired at this point and, after a Milo and story, she’s straight to bed without complaining.
