FRESCO and DSL Collection Reach A Global Strategic Partnership to Offer the Public Access To Art

Based on a collaborative emphasis on the social value of art and devotion to integrating art with technology, FRESCO and DSL Collection are together creating a publicly accessible and experiential platform for artworks.
About DSL Collection
DSL Collection is one of the major Chinese Contemporary Art collection in the world. It was created in 2005 by Sylvain and Dominique Levy. Today Karen Levy is also actively helping to build the collection.
While much commotion has been made over the apparent maturation of the Chinese contemporary art market, Sylvain and Dominique Levy have amassed a fortune of contemporary cultural treasures from some of China’s most prolific contemporary painters, sculptors and photographers, featuring works by leading figures like Ai Weiwei and Zeng Fanzhi as well as younger artists such as Song Yuanyuan and Zhao Zhao. DSL Collection also owns the world’s first VR museum, DSL Museum, which has gained widespread recognition from the art world.
Openness, the nomadic and sharing are core concepts of the DSL Collection.
The founder of DSL collection and also FRESCO’s art advisor, Sylvain Levy, sensed this want of access to art early in 2005 and put his DSL Collection into the first VR Private museum of the world.
In a recent interview with Mr. Levy, he shares with FRESCO some insights about his collection, conception about art and technology, and the partnership between FRESCO and DSL collection.
FRESCO: How did you come to create the first VR museum?
Levy: Since its inception, DSL Collection also decided that the collection should be a nomadic collection and has refused to be fixed in one spot and instead, opts for extending the notions of art spaces using the globalized arena of the digital world.
Born into a screen-based world, today’s new generation move in and out of the physical and virtual worlds at ease, believing that each world is “real” to them.
From 2005 ( the year of the first video posted on Youtube ) we went from a website to a 2D and 3D museum, and in 2012 a museum on Second Life and now augmented reality and virtual reality.
FRESCO: What was the primary incentive for you to join FRESCO?
Levy: Firstly I believe that the Fourth industrial Revolution will greatly impact the human being and naturally art. Blockchain is part of it and it will help to solve one of its biggest issues with authenticity and transparency.
Secondly, I do believe that Fresco and its founders have the right profile and vision to address the challenges and also the opportunities for the use of Blockchain in art.
FRESCO: What integration of art and technology do you envision for the near future?
Levy: Art as the rest of our society will continue to be impacted by Science. Especially by VR, 3D printing, Blockchain, AI. But Art is also a great counter-power to the invasion of technology in our lives because it brings us humanities and creativity.

In FRESCO’s art test V3, a mandatory requirement is turning into a rewarding experience. FRESCO asks all V3 takers to go into museum and gallery, and take a photo that includes FRESCO, a work of art, and its tag. Other questions involve knowledge about the history of art, art market, and basic concepts of FRESCO. Among the tens of thousands of participants in this test, many shared with us their wonders and wishes.
A frequent feedback is related to the question about DSL Collection and its VR museum. “I wish I had known the museum earlier, so I didn’t have to take my daughter out on a rainy holiday,” a father commented. Another participant, a passionate supporter of FRESCO from Africa, mentioned the rarity of local museums in the town where he lives; the nearest one is 50km away.
FRESCO and DSL Collection see how people are craving for a better access to art, and have been dedicated to the art ecosystem for years.
The FRESCO team are a group of patrons of major art museums and university scholarships, including MoMA, Met, and NYU, to name a few; as well as members of art clubs that gather the most dedicated art world leaders. The founding members have also advised art investment funds, curated museum and gallery shows, and done research with renowned scholars.
DSL Collection distinguishes itself from other collections of contemporary Chinese art through a strict collecting concept. The collectors believe that “The 21st-century collector must think beyond established boundaries.” Therefore, DSL Collection not only actively promotes the discovery and study of Chinese contemporary artistic production and but also makes use of the latest technologies.
