About
maivmai
an online publication and press for voices from the hmong diaspora
Note from the editor

maivmai is an online publication for established, emerging, and aspiring Hmong writers & artists. Our goal is to create a space for voices from the Hmong diaspora to congregate and share in one another’s work. We promote an increase in literacy, reading, writing, and sharing of stories to connect us to the oral narratives of our post-literate ancestors. As such, our name “maivmai” is a combination of the Hmoob and American-English romanized spelling of the word for girl or daughter, maiv and mai, respectively–reflecting the pluricultural identity and multicultural lives of Hmong everywhere. It is our hope that maivmai makes it easier for you to find and share in stories that reflect or resonate with your lived experiences—and thus—helps us all establish a deeper sense of self and community.
