At Metta, we’re introducing our work — aiming to help startups, industry, and government become more sustainable and innovative — but also the amazing team behind it all.

We pay close attention to who we work with and the same goes for our team. As such, we are making an ongoing effort to highlight the people behind Metta in our ‘Meet the Team’ series.

It’s been great to work with Stephanie Shaar, our new Programme Marketing and Events Manager, over the past few weeks. In the latest addition to the ‘Meet the Team’ series, we learn more about Stephanie, and why she is excited about Metta.

About Me:

  • Favourite place in the world: Beirut 🇱🇧
  • Favourite food: Ramen 🍜
  • What is your life motto: “Let go or be dragged”. I think about that when I find myself overthinking the little things.
Stephanie Shaar — Programme Marketing and Events Manager

Q1: Hi Stephanie! 👋 How would you describe what you do at Metta? What are you currently working on?

“I’m currently working on the marketing strategy of the Aerospace Xelerated program, and planning the upcoming events happening virtually and in person in Dubai this fall. Catch us at the next webinar on August 24!”

-

Q2: How did you first get interested in the tech / startup ecosystem? How did you come to join the team at Metta?

“I worked with the Lebanese startup ecosystem for two years before joining Metta. There’s something about working with founders that is so enriching — seeing how passionate and hardworking they are constantly inspires me.

I learned about Metta and my current role through Ksenia, who was a mentor with one of the programs I used to work for. A happy coincidence!”

-

Q3: Within this ecosystem, what is something people are not paying enough attention to?

“Mental health is definitely a big one. The startup world glamorises and promotes the grind and hustle culture, but fails to address things like burnout and other negative effects that this type of culture inevitably leads to. I think mental health awareness as well as access to the right resources, and promoting a healthy work-life balance should become the new norm.”

-

Q4: What’s been the best part of working at Metta?

“I love working remotely and the flexibility that comes with it. As someone with ADHD, being able to create my own schedule and work at my own pace is a game-changer in terms of my efficiency and the quality of my output.

Also, having access to this opportunity without having to immigrate from my home country is a true blessing.”

-

Q5: What do you find most exciting about where Metta is going?

“Metta is on a growth journey right now, and I’m mainly excited to see the team grow.”

-

Q6: Tell us more about your activities outside of work. Outside of work, what’s a project that you’ve enjoyed the most or are most proud of?

“I’ve recently gotten into practising yoga several times a week and it has completely transformed my life. There’s something about the way it bridges the physical and mental that motivates me to get back on the mat every time.”
