This semester we had the chance to work for a very interesting project during the course ‘’New Consumer Trends’’, taught by Mrs. Betty Tsakarestou. Our team did an extended research on Mobile Collaborative Consumption and Sharing Economy, a field that is on the rise. During our research we wanted to go deeper into the mobile consumption and the way, especially Millennials, use their phone for their everyday routine. The insights and the observations that arise are interesting and tell us a lot about our generation and the world around us. So keep on reading our stories in order to follow our project steps and discover our final findings.

In the third session of the course, we have to go a step further for the project, “Mobile Me & You”. Now, we had to make a research on Millennial students, who live abroad and get informed about their mobile- everyday life. How different are they from the Greek Millennials, regarding the mobile usage?

For that reason, we came in contact with Milo Radulovic. Milo is from Μοntenegro, he is 23 years old and he studies Law. He is in Hungary for his Master in Law.

Milo Radulovic

Some of our fellow students are abroad for the Erasmus program in Budapest . They study at the same university with Milo (Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church),so it was easy to come in contact with him. We talked to him via Skype and he told us all about his daily routine with his smartphone, as he also send us screenshots of his mobile phone.

Before the interview with Milo, we did a research on the digital trends in Montenegro, in order to be informed about local habits. Some of the most loved apps or sites in Montenegro are: booking, twitch, ok.ru, Ali Express, yandex , Vk and IMDB. As we discover later through, the interview with Milo, his preferences do not fit to the results of our research. His mobile routine is a little different.

In the morning Milo as soon as he opens his eyes, the first thing he does is to see what time it is or turn off the alarm clock. He checks his emails via Gmail, he checks his University program and also things that he has to do via Beleške (Notes).

While he is having his breakfast he checks some of his friends’ stories and after he scrolls down the screen and likes some posts. After that he answers to his direct messages, opening Facebook and Messenger. Before he leaves the house he opens the Vreme (weather app) and Budapesti Metro in order to be on time.

While he is in the metro he listens to his favorite music with the apps Musika, Youtube and Deezer. He also opens the apps Sports TV and FlashScore to get informed about sport news. When he is away from his house and he wants to see a basketball game he uses Live NBA app. During the day he often uses Twitter, WhatsApp and Viber to see some posts and keep in touch with his friends that do not have Messenger. Whenever he wants to order something online, he uses the GoEuro app, in order to convert Hungarian forint. Sometimes he uses SmartBank app to check his bank account or find the nearest ATM. When he has free time he tries to learn better some languages and especially Hungarian with the app Duolingo, whereas he is home with his friends he usually searches for good movies and their critics in IMDB. Milo also loves traveling and he often goes to Montenegro on weekends, to meet his friends and family. For that reason the app Wizz Air (for booking tickets), comes handy for him. Last app, which he doesn’t use very often, is Tinder. Sometimes when he is out he likes to use this app and meet new people.

Milo’s mobile phone

So, after seeing Milo’s mobile daily routine, we understand that it does not differ much from a student’s routine in Greece. We have much in common as someone can see in the first project “Mobile Me & You”.
