This semester we had the chance to work for a very interesting project during the course ‘’New Consumer Trends’’, taught by Mrs. Betty Tsakarestou. Our team did an extended research on Mobile Collaborative Consumption and Sharing Economy, a field that is on the rise. During our research we wanted to go deeper into the mobile consumption and the way, especially Millennials, use their phone for their everyday routine. The insights and the observations that arise are interesting and tell us a lot about our generation and the world around us. So keep on reading our stories in order to follow our project steps and discover our final findings.

In the first sessions of the course we had to analyze the mobile daily routine of students in our country, near our ages, for the ‘’Mobile Me and You’’ project. As Millennials we use our smartphones a lot, almost all day to be honest, and we tend to pick them up for everything. So, in our project we had to make some observations about our daily routine with them. For that reason we chose Irene Hatziandreou (22 years old), who is studying at University of Patras, Primary Education and George Flaounas (19 years old), who is studying at University of Piraeus, Industrial Management and Technology. They have almost entirely different mobile daily routines but they have also some common points.

Irene Hatziandreou

As Irene told as, during the interview, when she wakes up the first thing she does is to see what time it is. The first app she opens when she’s still in bed is Instagram, to see all of her friends’ stories, to scroll down, to like some posts and to answer to her direct messages. Sometimes, she checks who is still following her via Instagram Followers.

When she is having her breakfast or getting dressed she likes to listen to music via Spotify or Youtube and alongside she opens the Messenger app.

Before she leaves the house, wherever she goes, she checks the bus timetable in order to be on time for her college classes, via Patras Bus. When she is in the bus and she is bored she plays with Covet( an app where you can dress avatar models).

When she is having her lunch she often uses Photograph apps (afterlight, photoeditor, VSCO, camera, cutstory) to edit her photos. She tries to be fit so when she doesn’t have plenty of time to go to the gym she uses some Fitness apps like Seven and Daily Yoga.

Also, she loves to check new decor ideas on Pinterest. Not very often she uses E-food and Cosmote app. Before she goes to bed she checks her Twitter account to see the latest news and maybe to post some tweets. The last thing she does before going to sleep is to set her alarm clock.

George Flaounas

As for George, when he wakes up, he turns off the alarm. The first app he uses is Reddit. He scrolls down as many memes as he has time to watch. After that, he uses the app My Music, since listening to music is his favorite hobby. Next app he opens is Instagram. He prefers seeing his friends’ stories than uploading photos, since he is a more passive user of that social medium.

Of course he uses Messenger, almost all day. He plays a lot with his guitar during the day, so he uses Pro Guitar Tuner in order to tune his musical instrument.

When he has free time, he plays a couple of mobile games like Future Flight and TigerBall.

His favorite app is Youtube. He uses it mostly at night, to listen to his favorite music, to get informed about the trends and to watch Youtubers, whose content he enjoys. This can last all night long as he says, if he is not that busy the next morning.

Also, he uses Twich when someone Youtuber he follows is live on it. He gets informed about sport news on SofaSports and sometimes he uses E-food for ordering food. In the end of his day he scrolls a little bit on Facebook.

As someone can see the two Millennials don’t have much in common in their mobile daily routine. However, both use their mobiles all day to accomplish all their different needs.
