Tiny Warship 10 — Samarkand Carrier

With the Davion fleet all but done, let’s have a peek in another faction, also in its early Succession Wars version. The Draconis Combine, for some reason, is a favorite in this blog and it was inevitable that they would make an appearance sooner or later. It actually has some interesting lore regarding space combat in this era.

The industrial base of this era’s Draconis Combine meant that while it also had an important presence in terms of space fleets, the means to produce the gargantuan vessels other factions deployed weren’t present. Thus, tonnage-wise, the Combine was forced to rely on smaller, less capable ships to carry the day.

Produced in two blocks, the Samarkand-class carrier was the largest vessel produced in numbers by the Combine at this time. It was a nimble vessel capable of carrying several squadrons of aerospace fighters, while also boasting a powerful frontal laser battery. It was essentially a smaller take on the New Syrtis concept.

To complement the rather limited and small warships in its navy the Combine would employ the largest dropship fleet in the Inner Sphere. That, though, is a story for another time.

This is a small model, given the new scale I’ve been using. The Samarkand is a truly small ship, even though in context it remains the Combine’s heavy ship choice. This model uses 28 parts plus the base.
