Biweekly update on Cosmos ecosystem vol. 44, 9th March — 24th March
Greetings, Space Cowboys and Astronaut Girls! It’s time for our traditional biweekly report!
Did you know that on March 13th 2019 Cosmos Hub was born? Last week, we celebrated the very special day — two years since the launch! Happy anniversary to the team!
HackAtom RU, a Cosmos IBC-focused hackathon, is waiting for its most creative developers. Space mission: IBC’ing (aka bridging) DeFi into Cosmos! Read full details below, register and start building. Only a few days left to submit your Cosmos project!
Starport, the easiest way to build a blockchain, now comes with a brand new release, Starport v0.15, that focuses on one of the most important features of Stargate — the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol.
Proposal #41 is in the voting period. It enables transferring and receiving assets using the ICS20 standard on the Cosmos Hub. If this proposal passes, there will be IBC assets available in the Bank module of the Hub and ATOM will be available on Zones connected over IBC.
As for the Cosmos ecosystem news: Crypto.com announces global alliance partnership and principal membership with Visa. Also, Crypto.com will launch a non-fungible token (NFT) platform on March 26 featuring content from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Lionel Ritchie and Boy George. Launched smoothly, Akash mainnet 2 saw 188 application deployments in the first 2 weeks. Althea blockchain community update and AMA took place. The application phase of Agoric incentivized testnet is now complete. Polygon (Matic Network) completes integration with Band Protocol to secure DeFi, NFT, and gaming ecosystem. Brave joined the BSC ecosystem to accelerate DeFi adoption. What’s more, Binance Smart Chain surpasses Ethereum in volume and users BSC DeFi. The Bytom team just released the Bytom 2.0 whitepaper, the evolution will greatly influence the Bytom blockchain. The Idena hard fork update has been successfully activated at the block number 2643893. The new Idena app version will be released soon to support the mining delegation. Oasis is partnering with Darwinia Network to bring their powerful cross-chain bridge to the Oasis Network — helping expand cross-chain asset transactions and unlock the next generation of privacy-enabled DeFi. Injective Equinox pre-staking launched. Uptick App launched on IRISnet mainnet. Terra Bridge is live: You can now transfer assets between Terra, Ethereum, and Binance Chain within a single user-friendly interface. Anchor Protocol is now live. Mirrored SPY Index (S&P 500) is here. BitSong mainnet launch is planned on March 26th. Santinel mainnet launches March 27th. Kava 5 recommended launch date has been moved to March 31st. SEFI, native governance token for Secret DeFi, is expected to launch on March 31st. Regen mainnet soon. ATOM community meme competition is on. And more!
That’s all for today! See you next month with more exciting Cosmos news!

Starport v0.15: Supercharged IBC and Frontend Code Generation
Starport has supported Cosmos SDK Stargate even before Starport was released in September 2020. The team has improved and simplified the scaffold, introduced better tools to manage proto files, and switched to the latest version of SDK by default. Starport v0.15 focuses on one of the most important features of Stargate — the inter-blockchain communication protocol (IBC). This release includes incredibly useful commands for scaffolding IBC modules, packets, messages, and indexed types. To provide an even better developer experience, a built-in relayer accelerates the development of IBC interconnected blockchains.
Starport has always bundled a frontend application with every scaffolded chain. In this release, frontend support is re-engineered to include separate packages for Vue components and common Vuex stores. The foundation under all the frontend efforts is the new client code generation capability. Starport automatically generates JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vuex clients for standard Cosmos SDK modules as well as, of course, the custom modules you are building.
Hierarchy of Tests
by Anton Kaliaev
How are critical distributed systems, like Tendermint Core, being tested and how is the engineering team doubling down on its overall resilience and stability? The answer is multiple layers of testing.
Towards Tendermint Core 1.0
Tendermint roadmap for the next 18 months
Tendermint Core 1.0’s chief concern is stability. It must be stable enough that people can (continue) to build production software on it confidently. This requires an increased level of clarity and rigidity around all the interfaces exposed by Tendermint Core. It also requires us to build confidence in Tendermint Core’s performance and correctness through investments in performance-oriented refactors and increased, more sophisticated testing.
This post outlines the things the team considers necessary for a 1.0 release.
The team thinks of new features and improvements as a kind of Maslow’s hierarchy combined with a food pyramid, with the most substantial and most boring goals at the bottom, and the shinier and smaller changes at the top.
If you have questions, ideas, or would like to contribute, please open an issue or join Tendermint developer forum.
