Hello Ethereum lovers! For those who are a little behind of times, there was a lot of essential news these weeks! Firstly, as Justin Drake mentioned in the last Eth2.0 Implementers Call, the phase zero of Ethereum 2.0, which enables Proof of Stake, is targeted to launch on the 3rd of January 2020! Only seven months from now! Secondly, the Ethereum team made significant progress with current development as usual! Core Devs Meeting took place as Ethereum 2.0 development updates were published: Lighthouse, Nimbus, Prysmatic Labs. Parity v2.5.2-beta / v2.4.7-stable, Swarm v0.4.1, ZeppelinOS 2.4.0, Truffle v5.0.22 released. Ethereum ecosystem is impressive and it continues to flourish! New projects and protocols appear constantly! Developers have been working extremely hard over the period of the last two weeks so many updates on projects build on Ethereum appeared in the media landscape. Augur v2 to integrate bZx for margin trading. Dai Stability Fee up for a vote on going to 17.5%. Instadapp and CDP Saver built similar bridges between Maker and Compound. Transact easily between the two to generate cDai or repay CDP. Dharma now offers customizable loans to pick your own terms. First third-party casino from RaketheRake goes live on FunFair. Etherisc and Oxfam going live with insurance product for Sri Lankan farmers. Oxfam with ConsenSys and Sempo also trials Dai for aid in Vanatu. Connext to release single-node v2.0 on Counterfactual in July, followed by multihop in Q3. FOAM does proof of location over radio. Ethereum Foundation joins Hyperledger and Enterprise Ethereum Alliance. Iceland regulators approve Monerium on mainnet to provide European fiat payment services. Insurance Giant MetLife announces ‘Lifechain’, an Ethereum pilot program that aims to revolutionise the insurance industry. Research and opinion articles (“Minimal fully generalized S*ARK-based plasma” and “One fee market EE to rule them all” by Vitalik Buterin, etc) and videos from Berlin Ethereum Meetup were published. The year is well underway, cherry blossoms have fallen, and Devcon is quickly approaching! The conference’s fifth incarnation returns to East Asia later this year! That would be precisely 11 years after Bitcoin’s genesis block was launched on the 3rd of January 2009, with Justin Drake, an eth 2.0 researcher, citing the 11th Bitcoin anniversary as one reason for choosing that specific date.
He said they’re on track for phase zero spec freeze this June 30th, in about two weeks.
Thus, for new realistic targets, there are two milestones. First, the deposit contract is to launch ahead of the genesis block to allow validators to make deposits.
They’re hoping at least 2 million eth will be deposited, with a deposit contract ceremony to be held at Devcon in Japan “so that we can all agree on the address of the deposit contract and avoid scam deposit contracts,” Drake said.
The second milestone is the genesis block launch on the day Satoshi Nakamoto did so for bitcoin.
That would be soon after Christmas and after the new year, so symbolizing a new beginning for Ethereum.
This would allow three months of deposits to accumulate and 7 months from today for at least two clients to reach production status, Drake said.

Handel: Practical Multi-Signature Aggregation for Large Byzantine Committees by Olivier Bégassat, Blazej Kolad, Nicolas Gailly, Nicolas Liochon: The authors present Handel, a Byzantine fault tolerant aggregation protocol that allows for the quick aggregation of cryptographic signatures over a WAN. Handel has logarithmic time and polylogarithmic network complexity and needs minimal computing resources. They implemented Handel as an open source Go library with a flexible design to support any associative and commutative aggregation function. They tested Handel with a BLS multi-signature scheme for BN256 on 2000 AWS instances running two nodes per instance and located in 10 AWS regions. The 4000 signatures are aggregated in less than 900 milliseconds with an average per-node communication cost of 56KB.

Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin said that Facebook’s Libra is “like a centralized wolf in a decentralized sheep’s clothing” in an article published on tech news outlet Quartz on June 21.
The social media giant released the white paper for a its cryptocurrency dubbed Libra earlier this month to mixed reviews from experts in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industries and concern from government regulators.
In his article, Lubin notes that Libra’s white paper describes feelings common among many in the cryptocurrency community. It states that “sending money across the globe should be as simple and inexpensive as sending a message on your phone,” and “financial infrastructure should be globally inclusive and governed as a public good.”
