Obviously physical attraction is a huge part of dating, and we all want a partner we can connect with in the sack. However, a study by dating app Plenty of Fish shows that while bad sex can really put a damper on romance, bad conversation makes a terrible dating experience even worse.

In a survey of 2,000 daters aged 18 and over, 74 percent of respondents said that good conversation is the biggest indicator of compatibility during a date — even more so than any physical attraction that may have developed as people exchanged photos before meeting. In fact, conversation is so important to these daters that their impression of someone can be altered based on how good their first conversation is, with 83 percent of them saying they’ve found a potential partner less attractive after speaking to them and 87 percent saying a first conversation actually boosted a date’s attractiveness.

First conversations could even leave daters with their hearts all a flutter. The survey found that 60 percent believe they could begin falling in love with a person based on the quality of the first talk they have with them.
