It’s hard enough for parents to find some quality alone time together, and when they do, the last thing they want is to be caught having sex by their children. But it happens, and curious little ones may get an eyeful of things they’re not supposed to see. Luckily, parents come up with some clever explanations about what they were doing to avoid difficult sex conversations in the heat of the moment.

In a survey of 2,000 parents conducted by ChannelMum.com, these were the top excuses used when children caught them having sex:

  • They were cuddling
  • They were play fighting
  • They were tickling each other
  • They were moving around in the bed
  • They were trying to get out of bed
  • They were trying to make each other laugh
  • They were playing a new sport
  • They were having an argument
  • They were looking for magical treasure
  • They were playing horsey
