Gramatik’s “Future Crypto” is a Call to Arms for the Decentralized Underground

When Gramatik launched the GRMTK Token in partnership with SingularDTV in November of 2017, he became one of the first major artists to take a step towards a decentralized future and share in his creative success with his fans all around the world. Now, with projects like the blockchain-integrated Our Music Festival in development and major film production partnerships with the likes of Steven Soderbergh and David Lynch in play, the decentralized revolution is most definitely on in the entertainment industry.
Maintaining his pioneering status in blending the worlds of music and decentralization, Gramatik’s first release in collaboration with SingularDTV is “Future Crypto,” a warped-bass banger of a dance tune made with BRANX. The track has been tearing up dancefloors and major festival sets for the better part of a year, but the brand new video elevates the project to a whole new level. Check it out:
Gramatik lays out his inspiration: “Our species is advancing. Shouldn’t our currency be doing the same?” he asks. “With this being the first piece of content being made since the [GRMTK] Token launch, I wanted to explain to my fans what Future Crypto is really about. ‘Future Crypto’ is dedicated to the importance of leaving Big Business and Big Banks out of curation and creation, cutting out the middleman. I really think Isaac Asimov said it best with ‘The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.’”
While the track is typically uncompromising and unconventional for Gramatik, the video’s intention to spark an interest in serious and thought-provoking subject matter instead of the usual hedonism of dance music is even more remarkable. Even looking at the comments on YouTube shows scores of people all over the world being turned on to blockchain and digital currency by the track and the video. It takes more than Whitepapers and regulatory screeds to achieve adoption!
The story for the “Future Crypto” video was conceived and constructed in collaboration with SingularDTV CEO Zach LeBeau, and the noir-influenced video was animated by production crew Supermassive. The video follows the development of the role of currency and exchange from the days of barter through to Roman coinage, Holy Wars, the industrial revolution, big banks, the corporate war machine and leading up to the launch of the GRMTK Token and the impending decentralized evolution.
