Artificial Superintelligence Alliance Token Merger

On March 27, 2024, SingularityNET announced a three-way token merger with decentralized AI industry leaders Fetch.ai, a Web3 platform for the new AI economy, and Ocean Protocol, a decentralized data exchange platform. This unprecedented merger establishes the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance — the largest open-sourced, decentralized network focused on accelerating the development of decentralized AGI and, subsequently, Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Following the announcement, AGIX token holders were invited to make their voices heard about this token merger from April 4th, 2024, to April 16th, 2024. The ASI Alliance proposal prompted thoughtful discussions and debates within the SingularityNET community, demonstrating a healthy exchange of ideas and perspectives regarding the optimal path for decentralized AI development.

Upon conclusion of the voting period, the ASI Alliance proposal was approved by a supermajority of AGIX token holders, with 76.43% in favor of question 1(ASI merge) and 73.71% in favor of question 2 (accelerated token minting for AGI hardware), satisfying the governance requirements established in the SingularityNET whitepaper, which state: “Major changes in the operation of SingularityNET: a 65% supermajority of AGIX token votes.”

On June 22nd, 2024, the ASI Alliance announced that the core token merger process is now complete and we have moved on to post-merger integration. At the time of writing, over 50% of the circulating Alliance token supply already merged, including foundation treasuries and balances, SingularityNET, Fetch.ai, and Ocean, which are now consolidated under a single token, the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET).

Concurrent with the Alliance’s primary focus on development and rollout of decentralized AI technology, several implementation and integration steps will be executed in the coming period. In the coming weeks, we will introduce cross-chain bridges and migration solutions to facilitate the transition for our remaining holders on blockchains including Cardano and BNB Chain.

These solutions will enable users to migrate to the merged token (FET) and secure their positions within the Alliance’s ecosystem. Following this, the final step of Phase 2, that of updating the ticker from FET to ASI will be carried out in due time once alignment of all needed third parties is achieved.

Initial $53M AI Infrastructure Investment to Advance AGI

We were proud to announce a groundbreaking $53 million investment to build the world’s first modular supercomputer dedicated to decentralized AGI and disruptive ASI R&D and state-of-the-art High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI data centers.

Our supercomputer is purpose-built to optimize the training of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), Large Language Models (LLMs), including their aggressively multimodal variations, and also hybrid neural-symbolic computing architectures such as OpenCog Hyperon, tailored for scaling up dynamic AI workloads and AGI applications. It boasts the capacity to concurrently manage extensive and heterogeneous computational tasks, thereby enhancing the speed and efficiency of compute and enabling a paradigmatic shift toward AGI continual learning and self-improvement in high-load scenarios involving evolutionary algorithm processing, large-scale knowledge distillation, pattern matching, and multi-step machine reasoning.

The mission of the computing machine we are creating is to ensure a phase transition from learning on big data and subsequent reproduction of contexts from the semantic memory of the neural network to non-imitative machine thinking based on multi-step reasoning algorithms and dynamic world modeling based on cross-domain pattern matching and iterative knowledge distillation. Before our eyes, a paradigmatic shift is taking place towards continuous learning, seamless generalisation and reflexive AI self-modification.

To support this, some of the recent hardware purchases include a range of advanced GPU compute systems, such as a Modular Data Center equipped with Nvidia L40S GPUs, AMD Instinct and Genoa, Tenstorrent Wormhole server racks, and servers featuring H200 GPUs, as well as Nvidia GB200 (Nvidia Blackwell) systems.

In addition to advancing the supercomputer, resources will be used to construct the first in a series of modular compute containers able to be positioned around the world and relocated as needed. These compute containers will serve as a decentralized hub for a broader network of heterogeneous computing devices leveraging the agent-based computing frameworks created by SingularityNET, its ASI Alliance partners Fetch.ai and Ocean Protocol, and other ecosystem projects such as NuNet and HyperCycle.

The new supercomputer will start to come online in September 2024 and the first phase will be completed by the end of 2024 or early 2025, depending on supplier delivery timelines.

SingularityNET Decentralized AI Platform Development Updates

Over the last few years, we have been pushing the boundaries of decentralized AI, developing a comprehensive suite of innovative tools and products designed to develop and utilize AI services in ways that prioritize decentralization, safety, scalability, and benefits to all — developing the SingularityNET decentralized AI Platform.

The core goal of our Platform remains the same as it was in 2017 when we founded SingularityNET as the first truly decentralized AI network: To create a foundation suitable for running AGI systems with general intelligence at the human level and beyond in a secure, efficient, easily usable and fully decentralized way, without any central owners or controllers. Along the way, as our AI systems gradually move toward full AGI capabilities, the platform must also provide a high-quality decentralized infrastructure for AI applications serving diverse vertical markets.

One thing this mandate means is that — unlike most of the more recent entrants in the decentralized AI space — the Platform cannot be specialized to any particular class of AI algorithms or data types, nor any particular vertical market application. If it is going to serve as the decentralized infrastructure for the global economy as the world enters the AGI phase, it must be far more generic and flexible than that.

The first half of 2024 has seen noteworthy advancements across the core components (Marketplace, Publisher portal, Daemon, Listener, SingularityNET Command Line Interface and SDK) of our decentralized AI Platform, all bringing us closer to this vision:

  • The Daemon saw four releases (5.1.0, 5.1.1, 5.1.2, and 5.1.3) during this period. These releases focused on bug fixes, improvements, and the introduction of key new functionality. Updates included a new HTTP service type for interacting with serverless services, support for Training Version 1 on the Platform, and compatibility with the Sepolia testnet network. Additionally, libraries and dependencies were updated, the installation script was refined, support for paid Infura keys was added, and documentation was revised, expanded, and published in the repository and the Developer portal.
  • Two releases (2.1.0/3.1.0, 2.1.1/3.1.1) of the CLI/ SDK were published during the first quarter of the year, focusing on bug fixes, improvements, and new capabilities. Importantly, Python 3.11 support was implemented, while support for Python 3.10 will be added shortly. For greater flexibility, users can now utilize paid Infura keys. To enhance the codebase, work has begun on separating the CLI and SDK into different repositories. The updates also included Sepolia testnet support, ensuring compatibility with the latest networks.
  • The team addressed numerous errors, enhancing the overall functionality of the Publisher Portal. To expand its capabilities, new features and support for the Sepolia testnet were added. The JavaScript SDK web module was updated to ensure smooth operation and compatibility. Simultaneously, preparations are underway for updating the mainnet version of the portal, promising a more robust user experience.
  • For Marketplace development, we have streamlined payment processing via Metamax, reducing user actions, improving speed, and resolving bugs. We have also improved the user interface, and extended the developer toolkit with improved documentation and new features. Significant backend updates include a new logging system and updated hooks.
  • The Sandbox for marketplace services UI creation remains under active development. The core functionality for creating UI interfaces has been implemented, and further development and testing continue.

There are currently 70 services running on our Marketplace. Three services have been added to the marketplace during H1 2024, two of which were Deep funded:

  • Generative Language Models;
  • SYBIL General-Purpose Forecaster;
  • Onboard NeuralProphet.

Deep Funding

Deep Funding (DF) is a community-driven program created to support the SingularityNET Foundation’s mission of driving the development of a decentralized, democratic, inclusive, and beneficial Artificial General Intelligence. The main goal of Deep Funding is ‘To help the Decentralized AI Platform grow’.

As of June 2024, DF has funded 109 diverse projects in 4 full Rounds and one Test round, pledging a total of $4,307,343 in AGIX (Soon to become ASI) to projects elected by the Deep Funding Community. This includes the development and usage of AI services on the decentralized AI Platform as well as promotional initiatives and tooling contributing to the SingularityNET Platform’s adoption, growth, and success.

In H1, DF successfully concluded its Test Round, utilizing the new, in-house developed Proposal Portal. Of the 15 whitelisted projects, nine received a combined total of $265,000 in funding. Additionally, the first two community-driven LATAM Town Halls were held, demonstrating the expansion of the Deep community and excellent organization by Guillermo Lucero and Inés Gaviña.

DF Round 4 recently concluded with remarkable milestones, starting with a record-breaking 210 proposals submitted by the community. The Review Circle diligently advanced 192 of these to the voting phase, with over 100 proposals showcased during the dynamic Spotlight Day event.

Ultimately, a staggering $1,437,735 of the available $1,520,000 was awarded to 29 innovative proposals, selected by the community based on their potential impact and alignment with our Platform’s goals.

The path ahead is clear for DF’s next phase of growth: prepare the portal for a fully decoupled system of RFPs (Requests For Proposals) to run independently of formal funding rounds by introducing dedicated RFP functionality on the DF platform, and integrating OpenCog Hyperon-related RFPs. These exciting developments will shape the future of Deep Funding.

Decentralization Updates

The previous Supervisory Council (Daniel Ospina, Grace Rachmany, and Xhony Shollaj), with contributions from Community Liaison Judith Williams and Decentralization Program Lead Esther Galfalvi, developed a framework to structure the Decentralization Blueprint which was made open for public comments. The Council conducted six workshops to gather community input, which they incorporated into the Blueprint.

In April 2024, a complete draft of the Blueprint was published, and recent efforts have focused on incorporating further community input and suggesting initial decentralization experiments to the SingularityNET Foundation. We encourage all community members to review and provide feedback on this important document.

A community-formed Knowledge Management team, supported by the former Council, is now in the process of uploading the finalized document as a Gitbook. A marketing strategy is also underway to publicize the Blueprint and solidify SingularityNET’s commitment to decentralization.

Marketing

The first half of 2024 brought a substantial 15.5% increase in our following across all platforms, reaching a collective audience of 264,014. This positive trend can be directly attributed to our new content strategy, designed to cement SingularityNET as a leader in the decentralized AI space.

A major pillar of this strategy consists in joining the global conversation about AI by sharing informative content that highlights the merits of decentralized AI in different formats (e.g., long-form content on LinkedIn, AI-focused newsletters distributed via email ‘Synapse’ and LinkedIn ‘The AI Navigator’). In the past three months, we actively shared our perspective on key news and developments, including the discussions around technology at Davos 2024, the UN General Assembly landmark resolution on AI, and the race to AGI and ASI.

Our commitment to advancing our thought leadership in the larger AI conversation was further evident in supporting the organization and promotion of the inaugural Beneficial AGI (BGI) Summit & Unconference 2024. To extend the reach of the Summit, we hosted online livestreams that attracted significant global viewership. Additionally, we hosted a series of insightful fireside chats and discussions exploring the vital questions on the path toward Beneficial General Intelligence, both before and after the event. Over the course of four days, valuable insights were gathered from attendees through recorded video interviews, which we started publishing recently on our YouTube channel.

We launched several new initiatives to foster a deeper understanding of our technical advancements. We published our Progress Toward Beneficial General Intelligence (BGI) report, highlighting the extraordinary body of work carried out by the SingularityNET core AGI team in collaboration with our spinoffs TrueAGI and Zarqa, our partners, and the wider OpenCog community. We also shared our Decentralized AI Platform strategy and roadmap for 2024. The purpose of this report is to detail the achievements of the past year and outline our Platform development roadmap for 2024

In the lead-up to the Alpha release of OpenCog Hyperon, we introduced “SingularityNET’s Technical Tuesdays,” a technical series exploring the OpenCog Hyperon framework for AGI and the SingularityNET decentralized AI Platform. Additionally, we started a biweekly technical development update series of our Decentralized AI Platform, highlighting the significant progress made across core Platform components.

We recognized the importance of reaching new demographics by launching our TikTok channel and developing a dedicated short-form video strategy that extends to YouTube and Instagram. This focus on shareable, informative content has resonated with viewers, resulting in a significant increase in our following. Some of our most popular videos include Dr. Ben Goertzel discussing the risks of centralized AI (+7.8k views) and AGI hardware (+5.6k views).

We also hosted the first two SingularityNET ecosystem all-hands meetings on X Spaces, sparking a lively discussion on the latest advancements within our ecosystem, the ASI Alliance, and the broader decentralized AI landscape. In light of the success of these Spaces, we are excited to share that we are already planning our next All-Hands meetings in H2. We look forward to continuing the conversation and fostering collaboration within our ever-growing decentralized AI ecosystem.

Finally, the late March announcement of our multi-billion token merger with decentralized AI industry leaders Fetch.ai and Ocean Protocol attracted attention from the large AI industry and mainstream media, receiving extensive coverage in major publications such as Bloomberg, CoinDesk, and Yahoo Finance. To capitalize on this momentum, the marketing team has been working closely with the Fetch.ai and Ocean teams to execute an integrated promotional strategy combining content creation, community engagement, and strategic communication. These efforts have positioned the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance as a powerful compelling alternative to Big Tech’s control over AI development, use, and monetization.

While we are pleased with the momentum we achieved together in H1, we know we can and will do more. In the second half of this year, we will be proud to continue our support of the ASI Alliance, participate in high-profile industry events, expand our reach, and engage new audiences through content initiatives — stay tuned!

Events

The first two quarters of 2024 saw SingularityNET hosting and actively participating in key industry events and conferences, fostering valuable collaborations, showcasing technological advancements, and solidifying our position as a leader in the decentralized AI space.

Beneficial AGI Summit & Unconference 2024

We were proud to host the Beneficial General Intelligence (BGI) Summit & Unconference 2024 in Panama City, Panama. Organised by SingularityNET and sponsored by TrueAGI, HyperCycle and SophiaVerse. The Summit convened a worldwide community of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, media, academics, and global leading voices in AI like George Gilder, Co-Founder of Discovery Institute, to establish valuable connections and discuss how to guide AGI governance and leverage generally intelligent machines to support ethical, social, and economic progress.

The event kicked off on February 27th with a highly anticipated keynote by SingularityNET Founder and CEO, Dr. Ben Goertzel. In his address, Dr. Goertzel presented strong arguments for the potential of achieving human-level Artificial General Intelligence within years, followed by superintelligence (ASI) shortly thereafter. He called for immediate action to increase the likelihood of a beneficial outcome from this transformative AGI revolution.

With Big Tech companies like Meta and IBM starting to advocate for an “open-science” approach to AI development, Dr. Goertzel acknowledged the importance of open-source AI for transparency and collaboration. However, he signaled that open-source code alone is not sufficient: “Open source code is great but if you are open sourcing your code but the data needed to make that code do anything is proprietary and the software needed to run that code usefully costs a hundred million dollars, then the fact that the code is open source is of less use than one might expect.”

Therefore, Dr. Goertzel proposed “one of the potential alternative paths” to AI development, deployment, and governance, stressing the need for additional guiding principles to avoid scenarios where a small number of companies or government agencies have excessive control over the future of humanity. Specifically, he advocated for decentralized deployment and governance models to prevent the concentration of power and promote democratic control.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of open-ended cognitive approaches to AGI, prioritizing architectures like OpenCog Hyperon, the new version of the OpenCog system. He also underlined the critical need for ethical data practices, advocating for the use of ethically sourced and managed data to train AI models. Finally, he highlighted the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that the benefits of transformative technologies are accessible to everyone.

Building upon the themes outlined by Dr. Goertzel, the Summit delved into key areas critical for the responsible and beneficial advancement of AGI. Participants explored several complex questions critical to the responsible and beneficial advancement of AGI. Key themes included examining the ethical implications of AGI systems, exploring different AGI architectures, weighing the risks and benefits of AGI self-improvement, analyzing the pros and cons of open-source AGI development, defining evolving notions of “benefit,” and understanding the influence of global power structures on AGI evolution.

Summit discussions also addressed the impact of AGI ownership on ethical outcomes, the role of human consciousness in shaping AGI, strategies for maximizing beneficial AGI development, the ability of AGI to embody human ethics, aligning the pace of regulation with AGI progress, fostering a positive feedback loop between humans and AGI, balancing corporate and national interests, and proactively preventing regulatory capture.

SingularityNET COO Janet Adams took the stage to discuss the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape for AI. Drawing on her experience overseeing regulatory change in the banking sector, she emphasized the potential for catastrophic failures if AI systems lack robust governance. “Those of us leading this AI technology revolution have a ginormous responsibility in our hands… to ensure that nobody is caused distress,” she stressed.

Janet also highlighted the unprecedented global momentum toward raising ethical standards through AI regulation, noting a particular focus on fairness and de-biasing. She discussed the transformative potential of AI to expose and address hidden biases within organizations, seeing it as a catalyst for positive change: “I see AI as a tremendous beneficial force for humanity and one of its gifts is bringing us all to common standards of fairness to diversity to inclusion to transparency to respect for human rights.

On Day 2, SingularityNET Chief AI Alchemist Dr. Mihaela Ulieru delivered a thought-provoking keynote that challenged the status quo. She drew parallels to the ancient concept of Moloch, a symbol of systems that demand sacrifice for the benefit of the powerful. Dr. Ulieru argued that modern society is driven by similar perverse incentives, where corporations, governments, and individuals prioritize short-term gains at the expense of long-term well-being. “We are a commodity for advertisers and food for the cannibalistic industrial complex because of these incentives,” she declared.

Dr. Ulieru explained how decentralization, guided by the right incentives, could disrupt this destructive pattern and create a more equitable world. She called for a fundamental shift from a game of economic incentives to one based on cultivating wisdom, building relationships, and aligning with the laws of nature. Her keynote served as a powerful call to action, urging the audience to reimagine the rules of society and harness the potential of AGI to usher in a new era of human flourishing.

Following the flagship BGI Summit (February 27–28), the Unconference took place from February 29th to March 1st. This participant-driven format aimed to foster in-depth discussions and collaborative exploration of specific topics. Attendees were empowered to propose ideas and lead parallel working sessions centered around common themes. Key themes included developing a voluntary “Constitution and Governance Framework” for open-source AGI projects, exploring a “Global Brain Collective” model for directing AGI evolution, utilizing simulations and gaming environments for AGI scenario exploration, and collectively outlining plausible AGI futures through a “Scenario Analysis Process.”

The BGI Summit & Unconference provided a glimpse into the transformative potential of AGI and highlighted the critical need for thoughtful guidance. Moving forward, our goal is to spearhead practical initiatives that accelerate the development of beneficial AGI.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the SingularityNET team, community ambassadors, and volunteers for their tireless work in making this event a success. In her address, Janet reiterated our commitment to creating decentralized, democratic, inclusive, and beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that fosters the growth of life: “Our hope at SingularityNET and what we’re working toward is that our AGI in this AI revolution will eradicate the dramatic social and financial inequalities that we see in the world today.”

She contrasted this with the prevailing profit-driven motives in traditional sectors like banking, noting, “The banking industry has one motive and that is to make money, and that’s fine, it’s a product of capitalism (…). We’re building AGI with better ethics, better values, and better motives, a motive to bring everybody along with the world in this technological revolution.”

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Janet described the current moment as a “Sliding Doors” (reference to the 1998 movie) moment for humanity, where “AGI is on the brink of becoming a reality.” This is why Janet implored the audience to consider: “Who is going to develop that AGI? Is it going to be flawed humans with profit, power, and destruction as their core motives, or is it going to be a group of decentralized individuals with the benefit of humanity at heart?

To ensure the latter, she passionately urged a conscious decision toward a decentralized, ethically-driven approach to AGI development, ensuring that it serves the needs of the broadest possible range of individuals on the planet: “Via decentralization, we have the opportunity to bring ethics, values, and needs of people from all over the planet, of all races, of all ages, of all religious denominations (…) into the development of AGI so that when that superintelligence evolves, its ethics and its decisions are driven by the needs of the broadest group of diverse individuals on the planet.”

In response to a question from Mr. Santner about how she would use AI to improve the financial system, Desi responded: “AI has the potential to greatly improve the financial system by providing data-driven insights and increasing efficiency. With proper implementation and ethical considerations, AI can help address inequalities and create a more equitable financial landscape.

To illustrate her point, Desi shared her vision for the future of finance: “The development of a decentralized financial system where AI algorithms are used to manage and distribute wealth in a more equitable manner. This could potentially eliminate the need for traditional banking systems and create a more fair and accessible financial landscape for all individuals.” Desi also explained how AI can be integrated into everyday transactions to streamline the financial process, such as “using AI-powered digital wallets for purchases or investments.”

SuperAI 2024

CEO Dr. Ben Goertzel took the SuperAI stage alongside Desdemona Robot from Yaya Labs to discuss the path from narrow AI to human-level Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and, subsequently, to Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).

Dr. Goertzel began by exploring the current state of the AI field, highlighting that while yet to reach the human level, narrow AI systems such as Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown remarkable capabilities across various fields. However, he cautioned that these very advancements are raising concerns about the capacity of centralized Big Tech companies to balance the dueling aspirations of “making money” and “acting in the best interests of humanity.”

Looking ahead, Dr. Goertzel expressed optimism about the future of AI, citing multiple promising approaches to beneficial AGI, notably our cognitive-level approach, OpenCog Hyperon, which integrates evolutionary learning, attractor neural networks, probabilistic logical inference, probabilistic programming, and other methods into a common framework allowing them to co-update a large knowledge metagraph. https://lnkd.in/e-dYJrEh

He also highlighted how the emergence of compelling alternatives to Big Tech such as the ASI Alliance and SingularityNET ecosystem projects like TrueAGI Inc., HyperCycle.ai, and NuNet will help ensure a decentralized, open, and beneficial future where “AGI and ASI are not owned and controlled by any particular party with their own biased interests.”

In a thought-provoking discussion, Dr. Ben Goertzel and Edward Snowden explored “AI For Good” and AI safety, warning of governments and corporations trying to wrest control of AI, potentially rendering the fast-developing technology less useful.

Dr. Goertzel advocated for beneficial AI that “benefits all of humanity,” rather than becoming a tool for control and profit in the hands of a powerful few. He further explained how creating an AGI with democratic decentralized control, teaching it compassionate values, and raising it to help humans, increases the odds of getting a beneficial AGI that builds beneficial ASI.

Snowden echoed Dr. Goertzel’s concerns, raising the alarm about the growing control major tech platform owners like Google have over AI content. He warned of the risk of “powerful models being manipulated to push political agendas,” highlighting the need for diverse and independent AI development.
