$SKY x BTCPay | Skyfleet Projects #1
Skycoin is joining BTCPay, YOU can help make it happen!
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could spend your Skycoin (And Coin Hours) online to buy tee-shirts, crocks and bananas!? Well, maybe not those things… Things though!
Wouldn’t it also be cool if you could sell your fingerpaintings online for Skycoin, or hang the masterpieces in a local gallery and accept payments face to face for the ‘art’; assuming you’re one of those people comfortable interacting with other earthlings!
Well, do I have a juicy live-leak for you!
Directly from Skycoin’s underground Telegram rooms that span as far as the mouse-wheel can scroll… Skycoin’s integration with BTCPay is underway!
But before we go into that, I’d like to introduce the “Skyfleet project” series!
It will be an ongoing series of projects worked on by the Skyfleet within the Skyfleet Github Org.
Concocted to assist in creating features, apps and solutions to problems not currently being worked on by the Skycoin team due to lack of time, resources or priority. Skyfleet projects are a great way for you to stand out within the Skyfleet and potentially secure employment with Skycoin.
If you desperately want to work with Skycoin in a development role, make sure you undertake the steps outlined in the Skycoin Arena.
Upon successful completion of these projects at a high standard, the contributors MAY be awarded a reward or ‘bounty’; however, this should not be expected and be the sole reason for participating as it varies project to project.
If you’d like to help please get in contact with @BigOokie, @moe_narrow or @MacSkyver on Telegram.
Now, as the title clearly states; we (Being the Skyfleet) are working on integrating Skycoin into BTCPay, an open source payments system for eCommerce or point of sale (Retail).
What is BTCPay?
“ BTCPay Server is a self-hosted, open-source cryptocurrency payment processor. It’s secure, private, censorship-resistant and free.”
This means is that Skycoin can integrate and self-host their own BTCPay server to handle all Skycoin transactions, while also integrating with all the BTCPay plugins and apps. Merchant signup and transactions for both parties are free, which, with Skycoin’s free transactions makes for a true 0 cost merchant/payment option.
“BTCPay Server is the first and still the only one fully-featured open source solution. You can either host it by yourself or use a third-party hosting. If you don’t need to convert cryptocurrency payments to fiat, BTCPay Server will fit your case best. You’ll gain a lot in terms of independence by choosing it.” — From BTCPay website
Maybe you don’t have anything to sell…
Instead, you’ve created a valuable, helpful website promoting Skycoin.
Now, hmmm how do you enable people to show their appreciation!?

It just seems tacky right!
Well, now you’ll be able to set up a fancy button to raise donations or funding depending on your goals.
The Benefits of BTCPay:
- Saving money (no fees, no subscriptions)
- Cutting out the middle-man (Payments go directly to your wallet)
- Enhancing privacy for you and your customers (no address re-use, no IP leaks to third parties)
- Saving time (easy integration and installation)
- Protecting yourself from interference in your business (self-sovereignty)
Oh, and you’ll be able to do this in the following languages including English as the source language; an updated list can be found here:

Using BTCPay & Accepting Payments:
At the time of writing this article, BTCPay is available for use through the WordPress WooCommerce plugin and plugins on Magento, Drupal, and Prestashop; with custom integration available too.
Currently, BTCPay natively supports:
- Bitcoin (BTC)
- Bitcoin Gold (BTG)
- Bitcore (BTX)
- Dash (DASH)
- Dogecoin (DOGE)
- Feathercoin (FTC)
- Groestlcoin (GRS)
- Litecoin (LTC)
- Monacoin (MONA)
- Polis (POLIS)
- Viacoin (VIA)
- And soon to be Skycoin (SKY)
A fiat conversion feature is on the roadmap for BTCPay. Since merchants are always the owners of their private keys, they can always freely convert their coins manually, but for now there’s no instant-fiat conversion.
Will we be able to support Coin Hours? Time will tell…
If you’d like to learn more about BTCPay this walkthrough video does a good job of covering all the components in detail.
I’ll be keeping you up to date with the progress, and will create a step-by-step guide for integrating BTCPay into/as your payment gateway closer to completion of this project.
Make sure to join the SKYFLEET if you haven’t already! Also, check out some of the Skycoin Rewards articles, start earning SKY by contributing your time!
