I’m pleased to announce that I got my second vaccination shot this past weekend — and I’m damn happy about it! I’m excited to get social again with people. I’ve even started putting on my dancing boots again!

Me in my dancing boots!

So things are on the up and up around here. There are many things to be cheery about these days. One thing I’m especially optimistic about is last week’s news that Manhattan’s district attorney’s office will stop prosecuting prostitution in New York City.

I believe this is a move in the right direction toward respecting and protecting consensual sex workers’ right to work. Want to know the effect that prosecuting consensual prostitution has had on sex workers in New York City? Read what getting arrested resulted in for one sex worker in New York:

This isn’t to say that New York City’s new policy is perfect. While sex workers won’t be prosecuted for selling sex, their clients will still charged for buying it.

As the writer Elle Beau ❇︎ expertly noted in a comment on one of my pieces:

…if you are trying to support marginalized people making a living, prosecuting their source of revenue doesn’t really accomplish that.

And yet, I try to stay optimistic. Other cities (and states) will hopefully catch on and start implementing similar policies.

Remember that while prostitution is legal in some counties in the state of Nevada, it’s not legal in the county where Las Vegas is located.

Oregon is the first state to consider decriminalizing prostitution statewide. Rep. Rob Nosse, D-Portland, has introduced House Bill 3088, which aims to decriminalize and de-carcerate sex workers throughout the entire state of Oregon. Voters may have the opportunity to vote on this bill in 2022.

So as I noted, I believe New York City’s new policy on prostitution is ultimately a good thing for consensual sex workers. And yet, if you live in a city — or are traveling to one — where prostitution is still illegal, I advise you read my piece: How to Meet Up With an Escort Without Getting Arrested. Here, I share tips on how to keep yourself safe from law enforcement when contacting an escort for a meeting.

These tips should not be considered legal advice or the last word on keeping yourself safe though. You need to do your own due diligence to evade prosecution for paying for sex.

In other news, in case you missed the other pieces I recently wrote, here’s a list:

How Motherhood Changed the Way I Do Sex Work: As a mother, I became more compassionate toward my clients — and also more sexual.

I’m Sorry but OnlyFans Has Not Revolutionized the Sex Industry: It’s just made it more mainstream.

Was It Rape If He Lied to Get My Consent? Feminist law scholars say if a man fraudulently procures consent, it isn’t consent. And that’s rape.

It’s Not Sex Workers’ Job to Cure Incels: We’re not trained counselors nor should we be expected to risk our lives to provide sex to violent misogynists.

Other ways to support me.

In closing, I’m really trying to make an effort to offer a closer look at my life to my readers — within reason, of course. As a sex worker and a mother, I can only share so much. But at least by following me on Instagram and Twitter, you can learn a little more about my life.

Many of you may also know I’ve started an OnlyFans for this account. That’s the best way to get a look into my private world. I post new content almost daily.

And remember, you can always buy me a coffee. Writing is a hard job and I need something to keep me awake.

I heart macchiatos!

Thank you to all of you who have already subscribed to my OnlyFans or bought me a coffee (or multiple coffees).

And even so, I truly appreciate the support you’re already giving me by just subscribing to this newsletter. I’m still astounded by the warm response I continue to receive here on Medium. Many readers leave incredibly smart and insightful comments — so thanks for that.

I try to respond to all comments, but as an introvert, I often get overwhelmed if a piece is getting a lot of attention. So please don’t get offended if I don’t respond to your comment. I’m just trying to maintain my emotional resources so that I can continue to step out of my comfort zone to produce more work.

In short, I’m honored you’ve decided to dedicate a small part of your day to read my words.

Yours,

Mysterious Witt
