Can you hug an international friend through any distance?

Relationships are born from a subtle place where you can look into each other’s eyes, face to face, but the unquestioned focus is to create a connection that can endure any distance, all over the world.

Only by putting in some physical touches you can reach that point. Physical games go into an entirely different weight category compared to Skype calls and Facebook feeds.

Our human sensual nature is to be on the lookout for a friendly soul, not a computer screen, although it’s tempting. Those tactile touches, handshakes and hugs, really do tell a good story — I’m here and now for you, not against you.

But, there's the golden challenge. You can only give those when you have the actual physical reach.

This distance has been on my mind. I feel that this is mostly because I’m now in the UK. This country gives me a new experience to stay sharp and not forget about my beginnings in Latvia and at the same time spent time with new friendly faces here. Yes, Brits are fun and cool to hang out with.

It seems that the global culture is steering towards a phase where it’s written in the rule book — it is cool to travel, to live in foreign countries and catch up with new faces. I’ve seen it first hand with a handful of friends that don’t plan to stay a part but rather choose to travel. You probably know someone who have chosen the same lifestyle.

But what happens next? Do these new faces stay in the Facebook friends list or they become a real part of your life, not just a part of your social feed.

Here is the tricky part — We can’t focus on every new friend, but the focus will be naturally created by geography. Relationship building starts from a local place. A place where you have a physical reach.

The unconscious focus is to create a connection that endures any place.

The international friend isn’t necessarily a friend from a different country. He is the one that you can’t physically reach.

That is why bromance is encouraged. Nothing feels like a good old hug. That’s an investment for the time when you cross the border and can't stay in touch. It's funny to think that we say “Let's stay in touch”. I believe that there is a message of a physical touch.

Give a hug today, while you still have some time.
