Which of your past experiences are you mixing up?
Rahul Part Three!

For Part 1 and 2, click here:

Our protagonist Rahul had spent five years gaining experiences. I continued to follow his progress, from a high-school athlete to a cook, trekker, and English teacher.

Rahul found himself on the slopes of the Himalayas. At peace. Not one day a repeat, always something new.

There was something else that found him on the slopes.

An opinionated feminist who signed on for his trek, taking offence at the use of terms and words. And attitudes and feelings.

That was Sakshi for you. In your face, with her words, expressions and emotions. You could either take it, or take it. There was only one choice with her.

Sparks flew, not the romantic variety. Rahul was the trek leader, and he had to maintain equanimity. What could he do with someone like Sakshi, who took on the role of class monitor and moral supervisor and woke counselor — all rolled into one. He had met his challenge at last. Never before did Rahul have to plan things ahead in terms of what to say or do — but he was doing it. He was quite relieved when the trek was over, without a hitch.

A month later, when Rahul entered the prep tent to check on the next batch, he found his colleague smiling. The kind of smile that has a “I know something you don’t” look.

Rahul shrugged it off. The smile continued on and seemed to follow Rahul, who now had to know…..

“Oh noooooooooo”.

Rahul did some mock head-banging on the central tent pole. Sakshi had signed up for another trek, less than a month from her last one.

The awkwardness continued in the next trek, albeit a bit lesser. The boundaries were now well known, as were the dos and don’ts. The newer trekkers didn’t know what they had in store, and Rahul rolled his eyes. He couldn’t stop the smile creeping onto his face!

And so it continued. Sakshi turned up on a few more treks. Rahul found something else on the slopes. Love.

There was an exploratory day trek to check on a new trail. Sakshi joined Rahul, and midway through popped the question.

Rahul did not know what to say but agreed to comment on it at the end of the day.

Six months later, they were married, and our vagabond Rahul actually showing signs of settling down.

Together, they set up a base camp supporting a lot of trek companies passing through. They handled the resources and associated logistics. They rented a fairly large property and set up tents upfront.

Rahul started a hiking-writing workshop, opened an eatery upfront, and lodging on top for solo travellers.

It was a full-on business operation, mixed up with everything that Rahul loved to do.

The last five years’ experience all came through for Rahul.

When it doesn’t seem like work, it is a lot more fun to do.

So, will our protagonist really settle down?

Which of your past experiences will you mix up to solve a current problem?

Or to start a new venture?
