Dear Sentients,

Following up on my last letter without ado, I would like to deliver the news about the changes that have been made at Scene & Heard.

We want to provide the best possible media platforms for our readership and contributors. To achieve this objective, in a cluttered world of print and digital media, we are faced with the challenge of not only standing-up but standing out. To keep standing and stand-out, we know we must offer a very unique reader experience.

Facing the challenge to achieve the objective of reaching farther and wider, we need to, and, are re-visiting and re-inventing the form of Scene & Heard.

The process of re-invention requires us to take a step back from the print scene for the immediate & foreseeable future. Nonetheless, we plan to re-introduce the print version, in it’s new form once we have solidified the re-invention, envisaging this to take anywhere fro 9–12 months. I will duly post the updates as we progress.

Standing in for the print version, is a digital version of the publication available for download and reading on screened devices.

In short, effective September 2018, we will continue to produce the publication as a scheduled digital publication (5 times a year), AND publish accepted work submitted to our online platforms on medium.com as well as on our SNH Tavern web page (snhjournal.com) on a roll-in basis.

To accelerate our online presence, a robust social media and online marketing plan is also being developed and will be rolled out methodically over the next 12 months starting with the SNH web site being given an over-haul to better accommodate and showcase our contributors and readers.

This is the way we aim to increase our readership and thus exposure to reach a far greater audience than what we are currently able to do through the print medium.

“The Art of Being”

In my last communication I had mentioned that we would be introducing new content to be featured in the Scene & Heard. While we maintain the predominant literary and art slant, the journal will now also include material related to the artistry that is often neglected or goes unnoticed in everyday life.

This content will be called for in the form of stories told and experiences shared by people who would not conventionally be considered as artists, yet, their professions, hobbies, passions, and craftsmanship are quite obviously creative productions of the brilliant human mind-heart-spirit connection. This new genre of content is coined the “Art of Being”.

We see each life as a giant canvas, the strides and strokes humans make through their living experiences translate into the “Art of Being”.

Expressed in a broad range of dimensions, the art of being, is the channel through which humans are able to boldly and happily view each other as individuals in a magical way; accepting and acknowledging the uniqueness, as well as the subtle, and obvious similarities all sentients express by simply doing and being- e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y.

Seeing, hearing, observing and show-casing the worlds’ canvases, we wish to extract and highlight the essence of artistry through the art of being, and thus capture diverse collections of everyday art, not always or necessarily expressed through literary writing or conventional art forms.

Who, what, where is this everyday artistry I speak of?

Jewelers, jugglers, farmers, matchmakers, rainmakers, cobblers, candlestick makers, blacksmiths, butchers, bakers, programers, professors, teachers, traders, and moneymakers- to name a few, are all artists in our view, their artistry channelled through their professions, passions, and pastimes all deserving to be seen and heard.

We look forward to bringing you the additional content as of the 3rd issue. We are certain that the new content will be fresh, inspiring and eye-opening, and will be issuing submission calls for the “Art of Being” in due course.

The difference between science and the arts is not that they are different sides of the same coin even, or even different parts of the same continuum, but rather, they are manifestations of the same thing. The arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity.

We believe that this content will draw what might otherwise seem mundane to be transformed into inspirational expressions to give our audiences the motivation into looking for, finding and breathing art and aesthetics into every aspect of life. The creative force of humans is something to be held close and cherished.

At this point the only remaining business to address is that of how we are handling the submissions that have been accepted for print publication. We have put in place the following:

Contributors’ work originally accepted to appear in the 2nd print issue (which will not be published in print) have the option of:

Being published in the next digital issue of Scene & Heard (out September 2018)
Withdraw their work from the publication by August 30th 2018.
