The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Hero Report

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on 1/31 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (News)
  • The Crystal Ball (Upcoming)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Wallets)

Let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

Even with a major Harmony outage resulting in a delayed patch, quite a bit still happened this week! Here are a few highlights:

Land Expansion Comes to Serendale

Although teased a few weeks ago, I think we were all surprised at this week’s surprise reveal of an expanded Serendale map, and the release of Land plots!

One-tenth of the full Serendale map has finally been revealed!

Plots #1–51 were airdropped to the winners of the two land raffles, and can be bought and sold in the Castle. As of this writing, no lands have sold yet, and the *cheapest* plot is listed for a whopping 45,000 JEWEL!

The *cheapest* land plot for sale right now

Don’t have that kind of cash? (Me neither!) Don’t fret. As quests are released, the remaining 949 plots of land will slowly become available for purchase by lucky questers. While no price or additional details have been formally announced yet, this is almost certainly one of the reasons that the team is encouraging everybody to level their heroes.

And even if you aren’t one of the lucky players to have the chance to purchase additional land, expect prices to drop significantly once more is available.

In Smaller News…

Although Land was the big one, we also saw a bunch of smaller things happen this week, including:

  • APIv6 was released into production on the main game site
  • The Crystalvale Gen0 airdrop was expanded into a raffle for all heroes hitting Level 10 by 2/14
  • New Land raffle (5 plots) for newly summoned (#100,000+) and leveled heroes
  • Secret snapshots for xJEWEL holders between 2/1 and 2/21
  • Some bullish announcements from Dreamer about the upcoming Scholarship program, future partnerships, and exchange listings during Monday’s Business Development AMA (or see Samichpunch’s writeup)
  • A Perilous Journey, Part 1 — a teaser video for the Crystalvale expansion
  • A governance proposal to update the JEWEL locking mechanism to prevent the accidental loss of locked JEWEL and the use of wrapped locked JEWEL in financial derivatives. The vote ends tomorrow, so be sure to cast yours!

Heroes of the Week

Our choices of Heroes of the Week are this week are obvious — the first five heroes to hit Level 10 and guarantee their owners a Crystalvale Gen0!

The first five Level 10 Heroes!

Congratulations to Hubertine Casksong #1290 (testy bug), Anorim Whitshield #253 (sashei), Lowuen Greatbow #19802 (Littledwf2), Mango Hammercutter #35099 (Rindodo), and Mor Venorus #581 (Vedas)!

The Crystal Ball

A few things that the team has mentioned we can expect in the coming weeks:

  • Gardening Changes — We will see Gardening reworked soon to add a jackpot/lucky roll, similar to Mining, and also to institute a minimum JEWEL reward per stamina spent.
  • Stamina Changes — Upcoming changes to stamina regeneration will allow heroes who have finished a quest that hasn’t been Completed (i.e. pressing the complete button) to begin regenerating stamina!
  • Atonement Crystals — The long-awaited airdrop to players who leveled heroes while the Meditation Circle was still in Beta. Due to a small bug, these heroes didn’t receive their full HP/MP increases. Atonement crystals will give a flat one-time increase (+35 HP / +10 MP) to a hero, and should be on the horizon soon!

The Summoner’s Circle

Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.

Total Heroes: 112,726 (+8,990 / 8.67%)

Hero Growth

Hero growth continued to increase dramatically this week, this time likely in response to the new hero summoning raffle. The total number of heroes increased by 8,990 this week — 8.67%, with an average of around 1284 new heroes summoned every day, a high we haven’t seen since mid-December!

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Jan. 31: 112,726 (+8,990 / 8.67%)
• Jan. 24: 103,736 (+7,091 / 7.33%)
• Jan. 17: 96,645 (+5,490 / 6.02%)
• Jan. 10: 91,155 (+6,187 / 7.28%)

Hero Stat Breakdowns

As noted last week, the leveling competition has resulted in some dramatic increases in the top hero levels recently, with 7 heroes reaching Level 10 already, and another handful at Level 6+. More broadly, the number of Level 3s has now surpassed Level 1–2s, with Level 4 quickly catching up. It’s great to see all these heroes leveling up!

While Knights continued to massively outpace other Basic classes, Wizards and Archers flipped for lowest numbers this week.

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets. These numbers are compared against two weeks ago.

Total Hero Wallets: 16,735* (+1,590 / 10.5%)

Note: Although we’re running on the new APIv6 this week, I realized that one of the reasons for the large numbers of missing heroes recently is actually not an API issue, but rather the fact that many users are placing their heroes in custodial questing services, which do not have DFK profiles associated with them.

As of this morning, 715 heroes had been placed in such wallets.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth increased over the past two weeks by 1,590 (+10.5%). Even averaging these numbers over the two weeks would mean a weekly growth of approximately 5.25%, which is still higher than Jan. 17, when growth had slowed to only 3.46%.

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Jan. 31: 16,735 (+1,590 / 10.5%)
• Jan. 17: 15,145 (+507 / 3.46%)
• Jan. 10: 14,638 (+1,065 / 7.85%)
• Jan. 3: 13,573 (828 / 6.5%)

In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it we saw additional wallet growth of 9.57% — a fairly significant slowdown given the two-week period. During this time, the share of hero wallets to profiles increased slightly to 14.9% (+0.1%).

Hero Wallet Stats

This week the average number of heroes held per wallet increased by 5.5% to 6.69 heroes, while the median wallet also ticked up to 3.

A few key hero wallet metrics

This week, we see a huge shift of heroes out of the Top 50 wallets, but as I note above, this is almost certainly because those heroes are being held in custodial questing wallets. The largest hero holders are those most likely to use these services.

Looking at the smallest wallets, although the number of one-hero holders has gone up by 7.3% (over two weeks), the overall share of wallets holding only one hero decreased by almost 3%. While this could point to slower overall growth, combined with the increase this week in the median to 3, it may also mean that players are simply starting to acquire more heroes.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 100–124, 125–149, 150–199, and 200+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 866 (-4 from Jan. 17)

While on the face of things, it looks like there was some minor consolidation among Gen0 holders this week (-4), four of those Gen0s appear to be in custodial quest wallets, indicating that very little overall change has taken place.

A few key metrics for Gen0 wallets

And, as always, it’s hard to tell which movement is from sales vs. switching between wallets, but there seems to have been quite a bit of the latter this week: Bezdukas (+10), BiGs (-9), Almost (+9), Professionalist (+9), MagBink (+8), Aenea (+8), doody (-7), Sefi-Mingdoms (+7), and LitrlyKantEven (+7), to name only a handful of the large movements this week.

Whale Watch

Finally, let’s check in on our hero whales. Again, we see some shuffling around between accounts of top holders, especially if many of them have been moving heroes in and out of questing services, as I mentioned above. Unfortunately, this makes them much harder to keep track of.
