The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Hero Report

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on 1/17 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (News)
  • The Crystal Ball (Upcoming)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Wallets)

Let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

Even with a major Harmony outage resulting in a delayed patch, quite a bit still happened this week! Here are a few highlights:

Map Teasers

At last week’s Creative Department AMA, we got some visual teasers from upcoming expansion of the world map, as well as for Crystalvale!

Some of the visual features from these teasers will be the central locations of Land plots coming soon, and will feature prominently in future quests and game lore!

And would Crystalvale be complete without its own penguins? This penguin, anyway, says no, and couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds!

New Alchemy Potions and Stamina Vials in Use

While most of this week’s patch changes happened in the background, we did see the release of five new potion recipes:

  • Anti-Poison Potion: 2x Ironscale, 2x Ambertaffy, 3x Spiderfruit, 5x Gaia’s Tears, 300 Gold
  • Anti-Blinding Potion: 2x Lanterneye, 7x Darkweed, 2x Milkweed, 5x Gaia’s Tears, 300 Gold
  • Magic Resistance Potion: 8x Lanterneye, 2x Milkweed, 4x Bluestem, 10x Gaia’s Tears, 500 Gold
  • Swiftness Potion: 2x Sailfish, 2x Swift-Thistle, 1x Magic Resistance Potion, 1x Toughness Potion, 20x Gaia’s Tears, 3000 Gold
  • Toughness Potion: 8x Ironscale, 7x Ambertaffy, 10x Gaia’s Tears, 500 Gold

While Hubert has noted that these potions are primarily intended for use in quests and combat, we also saw the Stamina Vial gain the ability to be used on a hero, immediately restoring 25 Stamina to it.

One Gen0 owner wasted no time on this, feeding their hero no fewer than 234 Stamina Vials, and power-leveling her all the way to Level 7!

Hubertine Casksong #1290 (testy bug)

No doubt we’ll soon start to see other heroes break away from the pack in terms of XP gains.

Side Note: Notice how Level 7 requires 10,000 XP to fill? More on that soon…

New Airdrop Contract

A minor back-end change that has nonetheless been on the horizon for a long time, this week, the new Airdrop smart contract was finalized and added to the game through the Hot Air Balloon floating over the Castle.

This Balloon will soon be the source of airdrops!

Soon, this will allow the team to Airdrop all manner of items to players: long-awaited gold, potions, pet eggs, enhancement stones, attunement stones, atonement stones, and more! This will also likely be the source of airdropped CRYSTAL and Crystalvale Gen0s.

Hero of the Week

Finally, one hero in particular caught our attention this week:

Cahagan Blilaria #23134 (Monstera)

This Mythic Paladin was one of the first heroes to hit Level 5 this week, which as we know, means that it received an additional stat boost based on rarity. Monstera was kind enough to post some screenshots of the leveling process on Twitter, reminding us of the overall importance of rarity as heroes gain in levels:

Those extra 10 stat points will arrive for Mythic heroes every 5 levels. For reference:

  • Common: +0
  • Uncommon: +2
  • Rare: +4
  • Legendary: +7
  • Mythic: +10

To see the breakdown of where all of those stats will go, check out this article on the DeFi Kingdoms Medium page.

The Crystal Ball

A few things that the team has mentioned we can expect in the coming weeks:

  • Tavern API v6 — Still on the horizon, the new API is currently in late Alpha testing, and should be released to Beta soon!
  • Stamina Changes — Upcoming changes to stamina regeneration will allow heroes who have finished a quest that hasn’t been Completed (i.e. pressing the complete button) to begin regenerating stamina!
  • Gardening Changes — Confirmed during today’s AMA, we will see Gardening reworked to add jackpot/lucky roll, just like Mining, and also to institute a minimum JEWEL reward per stamina spent.
  • Map Expansion — With all of the teasers from last week’s AMA, we can expect an expanded world map coming soon. This, plus a certain table in the Castle remind us that Land is the next major feature on the roadmap!

The Summoner’s Circle

Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.

Total Heroes: 96,645 (+5,490 / 6.02%)

Hero Growth

After last week’s pickup in summoning numbers, this week we saw them begin to drop off again, magnified by the total outage on Harmony on Wednesday. The total number of heroes increased by 5,490 this week — 6.02%, with an average of around 784 new heroes summoned every day, a drop of 100 from last week’s average.

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Jan. 17: 96,645 (+5,490 / 6.02%)
• Jan. 10: 91,155 (+6,187 / 7.28%)
• Jan. 3: 84,968 (4,125 / 5.1%)
• Dec. 27: 80,843 (4,948 / 6.5%)

Hero Stat Breakdowns

As noted above, this week we saw our first Level 5 heroes (20 of them to be exact), as well as one that made it all the way to Level 7! Level 3 & 4 heroes now account for nearly half the hero population as well!

The gap between the number of Knights and other Basic classes continued to widen this week, with over a difference of 1000 between Archers, which have the smallest numbers.

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets.

Total Hero Wallets: 15,145* (+507 / 3.46%)

* Due to continued API issues, we’re unable to track the owners of 557 heroes this week (most of which are likely stuck in the Tavern), so the numbers in this section do not include those heroes. Given the large number, that makes any conclusions difficult to draw from this week’s data.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth increased this week by 507 (+3.46%). As noted above, it’s hard to draw conclusions, but given the number of missing heroes from the data, it’s likely a decent bit larger than this in reality.

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Jan. 17: 15,145 (+1,065 / 7.85%)
• Jan. 10: 14,638 (+1,065 / 7.85%)
• Jan. 3: 13,573 (828 / 6.5%)
• Dec. 27: 12,745 (1,227 / 10.65%)

In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it we saw additional wallet growth of 8.16%, even as the share of hero wallets to profiles dropped again to 14.8% (down 0.7%).

Hero Wallet Stats

This week the average number of heroes held per wallet increase slightly to 6.34 (+1.9%), while the median wallet held steady at 2 heroes.

A few key hero wallet metrics

Overall, there was a (relatively) big shift this week in top hero wallets (discussed below), that caused the holdings by the Top 50 to drop again, this time by 6.5%. The share of wallets holding only one hero also increased slightly this week to 34.9%. An additional 183 wallets have one hero from last week, an increase of 3.6%.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 100–124, 125–149, 150–199, and 200+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 870 (+5 from last week)

This week, we continued to see a slight shift toward greater distribution, as the number of Gen0 wallets again increased slightly (+5).

A few key metrics for Gen0 wallets

As always, it’s hard to tell which changes are from sales vs moving heroes around, but notable movement included odtylu69 (-9), yojimbo (+6), Veilvi (+3), Superior (+3), and Ansem (-2).

Whale Watch

Finally, let’s check in on our hero whales. The biggest change this week — alluded to above — was the massive shift in hero numbers for Veilvi, the longtime #1 holder. As in previous weeks, we get the impression that there has been some shuffling around between accounts of top holders.

As a consequence of this movement, the number of heroes held by the Top 10 dropped by 125 this week. The number of wallets with 100+ heroes also dropped by 1 to 45.

Account Name / Hero Count (Change) / Gen0s
* New this week in bold
