The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Newsletter

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on Monday, 4/18 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (Game News)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Hero Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Hero Wallets)

So, let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

Always a busy week in the Kingdoms, there’s plenty to catch up on!

Gaia’s Song — Pet Egg Event

This weekend, we were treated to a holiday event celebrating Gaia’s Song, a time of verdant abundance. We were greeted by in-game NPC Yara, who let us know that Pet Egg drop rates would be increased by 10x over the weekend!

Yara wishes you a Happy Gaia’s Song!

In total, 4991 eggs were found during the course of the event, resulting in an overall increase of 14.32% in the supply of Pet Eggs, including:

  • Blue Egg: 1320
  • Grey Egg: 1277
  • Green Egg: 1502
  • Yellow Egg: 892

With the Hatchery on the near horizon, it’s only a matter of time until we begin to see some of these eggs revealing their true forms! And if you’ve missed them, be sure to check out the recent pet teasers on DFK’s Twitter account:

Training Quests

A handful of new NPC were found around Serendale this week, hinting at the upcoming Training Quests that were mentioned during last week’s Game Mechanics AMA.

Training Quests are coming very soon! (Pictured L to R: Lucky Moe, Ice Reaver Zane, and Layla)

Here’s what we know so far:

  • There are eight quest NPCs, and each quest is clearly associated with a particular stat (e.g. Arm Wrestling / STR, Alchemist Assistance / INT)
  • These quests will give higher XP rewards than Level 0 Profession Quests
  • They will offer different rewards than the Profession Quests

What we can infer:

  • Don’t expect these new quests to directly improve your Heroes’ stats, rather, consider them a test of skill in those stats. In fact, it’s possible that lower level Heroes may not do great at these quests.
  • The mechanics will likely work similarly to those of Land Tournaments, and these may, in fact, function as an initial test of those mechanics (like the Wishing Well prior to the release of Profession quests).
  • These won’t be related to professions at all, and won’t grant Profession Skill increases.
  • Rewards will likely include Attunement Crystals and/or Enhancement Stones, since those are directly correlated with individual stats. There should also be new rewards as well.
  • The similar set of NPCs in Crystalvale may be hinting toward early Hero quests over on DFK Chain. Perhaps higher-level versions of these quests?

Whether the additional XP from these quests will be enough to pull all heroes away from Profession quests remains to be seen, but these will represent the first time that players may need to start deciding which Heroes will start moving toward PVE/PVP, and which will remain as permanent profession Heroes instead.

UNICEF April Charity Event

This week we also launched a new charity event for the month of April, following on our relief for Typhoon Odette back in December, for which the community raised $250k, and was matched by DFK for another $250k.

This month, the project is collecting donations for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which works to support children in need throughout the world. As before, there will be another match of up to $250k.

In just the first week, the community made 3763 individual donations worth over $150,000!

You can donate with a number of different tokens on both Harmony and DFK Chain. To do so, visit the Jeweler in either realm!

And if you’d like to suggest charities to support in the future, you can do so by filling out this form.

The Summoner’s Circle

Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.

  • Total Heroes: 174,347 (+5,130 / 3.03%)
  • Living Heroes: 151,706

Hero Growth

Hero summoning this week continued at the slightly higher rate from the end of last week. The total number of heroes increased by 5,130 (3.03%), and 26 Heroes still remain unclaimed from the Perilous Journey.

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Apr. 18: 174,347 (+5,130 / 3.03%)
• Apr. 11: 169,217 (+4,144 / 2.49%)
• Apr. 4: 165,103 (+2,070 / 1.27%)
• Mar. 28: 163,033 (+3,776 / 2.37%)

Tavern Volume

Tavern sales also averaged higher this week, as we saw the floor price increase by about 5 JEWEL and supply begin to tighten. The average number of sales this week was 787, with a total weekly volume of 544k JEWEL — up 94k from last week. The average sale price this week was 99 JEWEL vs. 94 last week.

Note: As with the other data, the daily numbers represent the 24 hours prior to 8am ET on the listed day.

Hero Stat Breakdowns

As a reminder, this section now contains data for living Heroes only — i.e. those not held by the Graveyard wallet.

Hero levels continue to shift upwards, with Levels 4–6 almost even in numbers now. Continued use of Stamina Potions for Leaderboards and during the Gaia’s Song event has also resulted in 9 Heroes now of Level 12+, including one Level 15!

Highest Profession Skills

The highest profession skill numbers continued upward this week with dramatic increases for Gardening & Mining.

  • Foraging: 21.5 (#33265 / Mythic Paladin, Level 15)
  • Fishing: 21.4 (#36949 / Common Ninja, Level 12)
  • Gardening: 20.3 (#73679 / Rare Wizard, Level 7)
  • Mining: 19.8 (#103477 / Legendary Sage, Level 8)

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets.

Total Hero Wallets: 21,056* (+485 / 2.36%)

Note: As of this morning, 4,516 Heroes were held in custodial wallets (including the PJ Contract), and are not included in this data. The Graveyard wallet is excluded from this data.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth continued steady this week around the general average of +500 new wallets/week (excluding 4/4). While this growth may feel slow, it has nevertheless been relatively steady.

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Apr. 18: 21,056 (+485 / 2.36%)
• Apr. 11: 20,571 (+478 / 2.38%)
• Apr. 4: 20,093 (+108 / 0.54%)
• Mar. 28: 19,985 (+432 / 2.21%)

In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it we saw a wallet growth of 867 (0.65%) this week.

Important Note: Since Crystalvale does not yet have in-game profile creation set up, any new players who headed directly to Crystalvale would not be included in these numbers.

Hero Wallet Stats

Over the past two weeks, the average number of heroes held per wallet increased to 6.99 heroes, while the median wallet held steady at 3.

A few key hero wallet metrics

The number of Heroes held by the Top 50 wallets increased significantly this week — by 6.2%, most of which took place within the Top 10 (see below).

On the lower end of the spectrum, wallets holding only one hero decreased slightly this week — by -45, resulting in the overall share of one-hero wallets also decreasing by 3% this week. Given the fact that Hero wallet numbers continue to increase, however, this should not be taken as an indicator that people are exiting the game — rather, that current players are buying more Heroes.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 125–149, 150–174, 175–199, 200–249, and 300+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 840 (-3)

A slight trend toward consolidation on the Gen0 front this week, as the number of holders fell by 3, including a reduction of 6 among single-wallet holders. The median held steady this week at 2.

A few key metrics for Gen0 wallets (two-week change)

Among wallet movement of Gen0s, as often happens, there was a good bit of shuffling around. Just a few stand out this week: Eric (+2), kirito_ (-2), and 0xCoolguy (-2).

Hero Whale Watch

And finally, let’s check in on our Hero whales. A few major changes in Hero numbers here, with Bern and ELisha Zane exploding onto the top of the leaderboard (they were #12 and #15 last week). Additional Heroes from Whynn continued to push the numbers up, increasing the Top 10 total by over 21% this week.

Account Name / Hero Count (Change) / Gen0s

  1. Bern / 471 (+270) / 9
  2. Whynn / 355 (+84) / 1
  3. ELisha Zane / 315 (+115) / 4
