The trip to Jizzakh marked the final trip of my nationwide adventure.

Transportation

• Arrival — Train (Tashkent North — Jizzakh) | UZS97,930

- Same as Namangan station, the staffs at Jizzakh station also did not allow passengers to pass through station building after arrival; passengers were instructed to exit the station from a side gate, and there was even a toilet built outside the station building

• Departure — Train (Jizzakh — Tashkent North) | UZS97,930

My Itinerary

• Turned left right after exiting the station, walked along Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi, went past Дехканский рынок and Кук бозор (altogether an interconnected bazaar area), and turned left onto Ulitsa Nizama Kushakova

- There is a plot at the corner of Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi X Ulitsa Nizama Kushakova called “Pyatak Taksi Jizzakh — Tashkent”, which is where one can find taxis going to Tashkent

- There is no pedestrian walk along Ulitsa Nizama Kushakova, and one needs to choose between walking on bumpy roadside made up of rocks & dust and walking on paved road for cars, which is dangerous

• Turned right on Azimov Street and walked all the way till crossing path with Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi again

- Along the way there are Jizzax viloyat Qo’g’irchoq teatri, Central Stadium Sogdiana, Bolalar Bog’i; at the intersection with Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi there is Istirohat bog’i

• Walked north along Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi / Rashidov Street, visited Korzinka, spent some time at city center area

- Things to see in city center area — Yoshlar shaharchasi (a walking street connecting Rashidov Street and Islom Karimov shoh koʻchasi; same as Yoshlar sayilgohi in Fergana, it is a pretty nice walking area), Jizzax Viloyat Musiqali Drama Teatri, Хокимият Джизакской области (as always, there is a big plaza in front of regional administration building)

• Kept walking north along Rashidov Street, crossed the massive roundabout and reached Sharof Rashidov

- Sharof Rashidov is a green zone in front of Grand Hotel Uzbekistan

• Kept walking north along Rashidov Street, turned left when crossing path with Islom Karimov shoh koʻchasi, and spent time in O’RDA

- O’RDA is a big amusement park and deep inside there are Amfiteatr, Jizzax qózg‘oloni yodgorligi, Xarbiy texnikalar muzeyi | Музей военной техники and a big memorial

• Walked south along Islom Karimov shoh koʻchasi, passed by Detskiy Park, turned right at Park “Pamyati”, walked along Yugay Street towards Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi

- This was when it got a bit scary for me — there was little-to-none lighting along the roads after sunset, there were not many people along the way, most buildings along the road looked deserted, and there were dogs barking

• Walked along Alisher Navoiy koʻchasi towards the station

- The section from intersection with Yugay Street to the station was also not too pleasant at night, as the busy market area during daytime was quiet at night with no shop open

My Thought

• I used to hear that Jizzakh is a city that rests early, and my trip confirmed the saying — there is hardly anyone walking on the streets at night even on the big road facing the station (maybe there are still many people walking in city center area, I don’t know), and lighting along the roads at night is dim

• It was dusty and windy on the day of my visit, which made walking an uncomfortable thing to do, yet Yandex was not available in Jizzakh so there was nothing else I could do to move around the city besides keeping on walking

- As of 2023/11/11, Yandex operated taxi service in Tashkent, Fergana, Margilan, Namangan, Andijan, Samarkand, Bukhara, Nukus, Qarshi
